The theme in Piranha Pays is a little strange to say the least. The setting is the front room of an old-fashioned house. You’ll see a grandpa (who looks a bit like the artist David Hockney) dozing in his armchair alongside a record player, an old school box TV and a green armchair. This old-fashioned domestic setting isn’t what you’d expect from a slot called Piranha Pays.

There’s a rather gentle piano soundtrack playing in the background while you spin. It’s all a bit strange given the marauding piranhas!

Turns out that rather than a goldfish, grandpa bought a piranha to fill his aquarium. The reels are set within that aquarium. There you’ll find A to J royals as well as a jammy dodger biscuit, a Battenburg cake, a fried egg on toast, a meat pie and a joint of meat. Not a combination you’ll see in many slots! Visually, Piranha Pays is a bit strange. The design is perfectly fine in itself, it’s just a bit weird to see the quiet domestic setting where a deadly piranha fish is the star.

That said, there are some good features to sink your teeth into in Piranha Pays. The Mystery Multiplier and Mystery Wins can spice up the base game. It’s the bonus round where things have the potential to get much more interesting though. Fill the trail multiple times and the expanded machine with added paylines and oversized wild piranhas can really get things moving.

As you might expect from a slot with this theme this is a game that comes with plenty of bite. The Piranha Pays volatility is extremely high and a world away from the gentle, homely setting. The maximum win of 5,000 x bet is pretty tasty too.
