Moon Princess is powered by Play ‘N Go and is played on a 5×5 grid – it has 20 paylines and can be played from 20p to £100 per spin on all compatible devices including laptops, PCs, smartphones and tablets. Based on a wide-eyed celestial superhero (Sailor Moon), this Japanese manga and anime series inspired slot is highly volatile.
The game is based on the Sailor moon which has celebrated its 25th anniversary when Moon Princess was released (2017). With a purple background, this Japanese inspired game has an assortment of mystical items and 3 princesses (Love, Star and Storm) as symbols. The Moon is the wild and substitutes for all other symbols – it also gives you 50 times your stake for 5 across a payline.
Moon Princess sees symbols drop down into the 5×5 grid – you can form wins by getting 3 or more symbols in a row, either horizontally or vertically. When you get a win, the contributing symbols are removed with the remaining symbols dropping down in the empty spaces – this gives you the chance to form new wins. More importantly, the middle symbol of a winning combo transforms into a Moon wild and the multiplier increases with each win/drop – up to 20x.
In terms of bonus features, you have the Girl Power feature which is triggered randomly on a non-winning spin. Depending on which active princess is display on the right-hand side of the gird, a different and unique ability is performed. They help you form winning combos basically:
- Love Princess: 1 set of symbols is chosen which then transform into another symbol
- Star Princess: 1 or 2 wilds will be added to the grid
- Storm Princess: 2 sets of symbols are destroyed and removed from the grid
There is also a Princess Trinity feature which is played when the on-screen meter filled up completely – it fills up when you get winning combos with princess symbols only (involving the wild if needed). You will then receive 1 free spin with the drop multiplier resetting.
Now, the Love, Star and Storm Girl Power features take turns in triggering to give you more wins. When you cannot form any more wins, a Girl Power feature is performed until no more wins are possible. This continues until all Girl Power features are performed.
If you do manage to clear the whole grid of symbols, you will activate the Free Spins feature – you then get to choose from 1 of 3 options. The Love Princess gives you 4 free spins with the Star Princess giving you 5 free spins. The Storm Princess gives you 8 free spins.
The chosen Princess’ Girl Power feature is then active for the duration of the feature as it triggers on every non-winning free spin. If you get continuous wins, you could get a multiplier up to 20x!
If you fully charge the on-screen meter, you will get additional free spins (4 for Love, 3 for Star and 2 for Storm) – you can do this multiple times with a maximum of 20 free spins on offer in total. Furthermore, if you manage to clear the grid, you’ll also receive a prize of 100 times your stake!
Don’t let Moon Princess scare you – it’s rather straight forward once you get going. You can achieve big wins in the base game due to the drop wins mechanic and increasing multiplier up to 20x. I like the Girl Power feature (especially the Storm Princess) but it’s all about the Free Spins feature.
I would opt for the Storm Princess as you get more free spins and see 2 sets of symbols removed on each free spin – you can also win again and again to get a 20x multiplier applied. Moon Princess is a highly volatile slot though (10 out of 10 rating) but does come with maximum wins of 5,000 times your stake on each spin (with a 20x multiplier of course). Overall, another superb effort from Play ‘N Go. I also recommend some of their other games like Matsuri and Viking Runecraft.
