The design in Fruit Abduction has a comic feel – the reels are set against a star-filled, space backdrop and include lower value playing cards and a quartet of fruity looking aliens. You’ll see bananas and pineapples that pay up to 200 coins and strawberries that award up to 500 coins. The best paying standard symbol is the slightly deranged looking orange. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these on the same payline and you’ll pocket 50, 160 or 1,000 coins.
More rewarding still is the cherries symbols which is the game’s wild. As well as substituting for everything apart from the bonus and scatter it also offers 200 times your stake for 5 in combination. The one-eyed lemon is the scatter. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these anywhere on the reels on the same spin and you win 3, 6 or 30 times your total stake. Unusually, the scatter doesn’t trigger the feature round.
For that, you’ll need to hit 3 or more of the planet bonus symbol. You’ll then move to a new screen to play the Asteroid Bonus feature – it’s a variation on the pick me round where you need to pick asteroids and in the process, reveal cash prizes.
That’s pretty much it as far as gameplay goes. There aren’t any free spins on offer here or any other extras. The theme here is certainly a little manic. The cartoon visuals and eerie soundtrack are solid enough. The gameplay is a little underwhelming and the action gets very repetitive very quickly. The Asteroid Bonus feature doesn’t offer much in the way of thrills either.
You’d hope that an alien-themed slot would be out of this world. Unfortunately, Fruit Abduction left a bit of a bitter aftertaste. I would much rather play Hologram Wilds or Space Invaders (both by Playtech) which have an outer space theme.
