Akaneiro is created by Spicy Horse and powered by Odobo. Spicy Horse is well known for producing dark fantasy action games with this slot game being their first venture into the world of online gambling. Spicy Horse has produced some popular games such as Demon Hunters, The Gate and Big Head BASH. Headed up by high profile designer American McGee, he create the first 2 Doom and Quake games which are infamous if you’ve ever played PC games back in the 1990s.

Anyway, Akaneiro has 5 reels and 25 paylines and can be played from 25p to £25 a spin. It has a Japanese Edo-era theme with characters from the original game. You need to slay the Yokai demons and slash your way through the evil forces in this game. The main character is Red Riding Hood which is the legendary founding member of the ancient elite demon hunters group (called the Order of Akane).

Set on Yomi Island, Japan, it has 2 bonus features including a free spins feature. There are 2 wilds in Akaneiro – one being the normal wild and the other being a Multiplier Wild which gives you a 2x win when forming part of a winning combination.

In terms of bonus features, you have the Bonus feature which is triggered by getting 3 or more Blue Karma shard (Bonus) symbols anywhere on the reels. This is a pick me style feature where you choose 1 of 4 characters before you pick from 5 coins. The characters will determine how much you win with between 5 and 100 times your stake available.

Then there’s the Free Spins feature which is activated when you get 3 Red Karma shard (Free Spins) symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 simultaneously. You are rewarded with 10 free spins and 1 times your stake initially. You can gain additional free spins (a further 10) when you get 3 of more Free Spins symbols and you can also trigger the Bonus feature too. Look out for the Multiplier Wild which appears on the middle reel to double winnings when forming part of a winning free spin.

I found Akaneiro to be a medium variance slot with smaller sized wins being quite frequent. I found the bigger wins to come in the Free Spins feature but quite rarely as most wins were between 2 and 10 times my stake. The Bonus feature can give you up to 100 times your stake if you choose the Smimizu character – as suspected, the likelihood is small. When you do get a few Multiplier Wilds in the free spins feature, this is where the bigger wins will come from.

Graphically and animation wise, I really like Akaneiro and I’m sure this will prove a very popular slot game. It’s available on your laptop/PC as well popular devices like iPad, Android and iPhone. It’s only available to play at Coral Slots right now who welcome you with a deposit £10, get £50 signup offer.
