Head down to the Wild West with the 5 reel, 10 payline slot from Novomatic. Playable from 20p to £50 per spin and available across desktop, mobile and tablet devices, you are an outlaw that needs to show if you’re made of stern stuff. With a classic Western feel, you are not bound by law so you can go in search for gold.
The first you will notice is that there is a 5×3 main reel set and 3 small reel sets (also 5×3) – the 4 sets of reels will spin with any winnings combined. Look out for the Wild West logo symbol which is the wild – when it appears on the main reel set, it will be copied over to the same positions on the other 3 smaller reel sets. This can lead to some big wins.
When it comes to symbols, you have the outlaw himself which is the highest value one on the reels rewarding you with 1,600 times your line bet for 5 on a payline. Other symbols include guns, sheriff badges and more outlaws.
When it comes to bonus features, there are a couple – you have the Gunshot Bonus feature which is played, randomly, following a winning spin. A revolver then appears and shoots a few bullets into 1 or several reel sets that gave you a winning combination. The bullets will multiply wins with a minimum of 2x and a maximum of 10x available. The good thing is that each reel set has its very own multiplier.
Then you have the Hi-Roller feature which can be enabled by clicking on the Hi-Roller button to the right of the reels. Once selected, you can choose either the Silver mode or Gold Mode. You will get 3 spins with all wilds locked in position.
The Silver mode will cost you 5 times your stake and, as mentioned, you get 3 spins with all wilds locked -the payout percentage is at 96% which is decent. If you opt for the Gold Mode, it will cost you 10 times your stake – you will also get 3 free spins and there will be 50% more locked wilds than you already had. The payout percentage increases to 97% too.
The key to winning big in either the Silver or Gold mode is getting wilds early on – I’ve managed to get a couple of wilds reels which led to a 430 times stake win. The Gunshot Bonus feature also applies which can really boost your winnings to a new level.
Despite not having a customary free spins feature, Wild West is a highly entertaining game in my opinion – the graphics are superb with the Gunshot Bonus feature coming along at regular intervals. If you manage to get a 10x multiplier on a decent win, you can win pretty big.
I found it to be a medium variance game with balanced payouts in both the base game and bonus features. However, if you want higher variance, there is no better Wild West themed game than NetEnt’s Dead or Alive which must be treated with caution – a cult favourite and a must.
