Perchta is a 5 reel, 25 payline slot powered by Novomatic. Playable from 50p to £100 per spin on desktop, mobile and tablet devices, the game is based on the goddess in Alpine folklore who resided in the upper German regions of the Alps.

The setting is a dark one – symbols on the reels include 5 playing cards (A, K, Q, J and 10) as well as 4 terrifying grimaces (demons) which have been sent by Beelzebub. The curved sword is the wild symbol and substitutes for all other symbols except the scatter.

Perchta herself is the scatter with 3 on reels 2, 3 and 4 (the 3 middle reels) opening the gates to the underworld. You will trigger the Soul Stealing feature where you will receive 15 free spins. Look out for the green Wild Souls which substitute for all symbols except the scatter.

If the wild soul lands in any position on the 5th and final reel, it will fill 1 soul next to a demon which are filled from left to right. When 3 souls fill a demon, it becomes an additional wild symbol on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. This means that it’s possible to benefit from 4 extra wild symbols in the feature – which can obviously lead to huge wins.

Finally, 3 scatters during the feature will reward you with an additional 15 free spins taking your grand total to 30. I really like Perchta and its theme – it may not possess (excuse the pun) the best graphics you’ll see but the gameplay and potential for big wins is there.

I consider Perchta to be a medium to high variance slot with the bigger wins coming the feature – the key to winning big is to get as many additional wilds as possible. My best result to date is a whopping 780 times my stake when I managed to convert all 4 demons into extra wilds.
