Lava Loot is brought to you by Novomatic and has 5 reels and 50 paylines. Available to play on desktop, mobile and tablet devices from 25p to £50 a spin, it has a prehistoric feel as you will see dinosaurs and cavemen against a volcanic background.
The graphics are cartoon like and the soundtrack is a fast-paced thumping sound – it will remind you a little of The Flintstones. When it comes to symbols, the Lava Loot symbol pays out 500 times your line bet for 5 on a payline – so does the wolf in the cage wild (which replaces all symbols except the scatter).
The highest value symbol is the Bonus scatter – 5 of them on a payline would give you 2,500 times your line bet. However, if you get 3 or more, you would trigger the Lava Loot Bonus feature and be rewarded with 10 free spins. Look out for the wild lava symbols which appear on any of the central 3 reels (reels 2, 3 and 4) – the wilds will slide down onto the new row for your next free spin – once on the bottom row, they would disappear on the next spin.
The good thing is that you can retrigger the feature – if you get the Bonus scatter on reels 1 and 5 simultaneously, you would be rewarded with 10 more free spins taking your total to 20.
There is also a Big Wild Bonus feature which is triggered randomly after a spin in the base game – you will see the volcano come alive and erupt. A Big Lava wild symbol slides down on the 3 middle reels (3×3 block) stopping on either 1, 2 or 3 rows – then the other reels spin. If the Big Lava wild stops on 3 rows, prepare yourself for a big win.
I found Lava Loot to be a medium variance title with the biggest wins coming in both the feature and Big Wild Bonus feature – actually, my best return was just over 500 times my stake with the Big Lava wild which landed across 3 reels. If you like the theme, Novomatic’s Volcanic Cash is a good option – however, I highly recommend Microgaming’s Jurassic Park which is superb.
