Visually, Irish Coins is 1 of the better Irish luck themed games – even by Novomatic’s standards. With lush green meadows in the backdrop with pots of golden coins to the side of the reels, symbols on the reels include A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 playing cards as well as 4-leaf clovers, mushrooms, magic pipes a red-haired lass and the lucky leprechaun himself. The golden coin is the wild symbol and substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter – it also pays out 50 times your stake if you get 5 across a payline.

When it comes to bonus features, there are 2. You have the Irish Coins feature which is randomly triggered in the base game – a random number of golden coin wilds (up to 15) are placed in random positions on the reels. A new payout will then follow.

Now, look out for the wishing well symbol as 3 or more will trigger the Free Game feature – 3, 4 or 5 will give you 2, 6.66 or 33.33 times your stake as well as 7, 10 or 20 free spins respectively. There’s a special violet wishing well symbol that only appears on reel 5.

If you get normal scatters on the other reels with a violet scatter on reel 5, the number of free spins will be doubled or even tripled – this means you could get up to 60 free spins in total. During the feature, the scatters can appear to retrigger the feature meaning there’s up to 120 free spins to play for. Finally, the randomly-activated Irish Coins feature can trigger at any time meaning each free spin could benefit from various wilds.

Whilst the Irish luck theme may be exhausted, Irish Coins is actually a very good slot – I like the fact you can get plenty of wilds randomly in the base game and the Free Game feature. Variance wise it’s in the middle and offers payouts of up to 500 times your stake on every spin/free spin. If you do like the land of the lucky leprechaun, iSoftBet’s Stacks O’ Gold and IGT’s Shamrockers Eire to Rock should bring you luck.
