Novomatic’s Ancient Goddess Slot Review

Ancient Goddess is powered by Novomatic and is a 5 reel, 20 payline slot which is playable from 20p to £100 per spin across all compatible devices including smartphones and tablets. Based on deity Isis, it comes with a Free Games feature where wild symbols reward you with additional free spins. The wild also upgrades symbols for bigger payouts.

Visually, Ancient Goddess is quite basic with a plain dark purple backdrop. With an ancient Egyptian theme, symbols on the reels include A, K, Q and J royals as well scarab beetles, whips, feathers, the Flacon, the Hound and the Sphinx. The latter is the most lucrative symbol giving you 5, 12.5 or 25 times your stake for 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.

The divine Isis is of course the wild symbol which substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter – when she appears, she will expand to give you a fully wild reel. The Isis wild also shows up on reels 2, 3 and 4 (the 3 middle ones).

The other important symbol in Ancient Goddess is the bonus scatter – 3, 4 or 5 on a base game spin will reward you with 2, 20 or 50 times your stake as well as triggering the Free Games feature. You will begin with 12 free spins. Once in, 1, 2 or 3 wilds will reward you with 1, 3 or 5 additional free spins.

There are no limits to how many more free spins you can win. Furthermore, the Isis wild will expand and can result in 3 wild reels on every free spin. Finally, the Isis wild reel will upgrade the symbols on the reels – each wild will give you 1 symbol upgrade starting from the feather which can lead to the Sphinx. This increases your chances of winning bigger amounts.

Ancient Goddess is nothing special to be honest – the theme is very common, and the bonus features aren’t exactly innovative. Saying that, you can win 500 times your stake on each spin or free spin. The likelihood of winning that amount increases in the Free Games feature due to other symbols upgrading the highest value sphinx.

To be honest, an ancient Egyptian themed slot would need to be revolutionary for me to take notice as the theme has been beaten to death. The best out there is still Play ‘N Go’s Book of Dead in my opinion – Pragmatic Play’s Egyptian Fortunes is pretty good too.
