With a war theme, the Das xBoot slot takes you to the harsh sea depths where you’ll see a longed after submarine. With lost World War II gold to be found, the story is that the fight for the Red Devil’s Gold is fierce. This means the hunters can become prey.

The slot is loosely based on the 1981 West German Das Boot war film. This movie was nominated for 6 Oscars and has won countless awards. Set on a WW2 German U-boat, it’s about boredom, filth and sheer terror (according to IMDB).

Superbly designed as always from Nolimit City, the graphics have a retro comic book quality to them. For me, it represents the film’s. Set at the bottom of the sea with the U-boat in the backdrop, the symbols look hand drawn which really adds to the atmosphere. You’ll notice the suspenseful soundtrack which is intense and a little creepy.

Symbols on the reels include lower value A, K, Q, J and 10 royals. The higher value symbols are all characters 5 crew members including a chef, a signaller, a mechanic, a lieutenant and captain. The captain symbol is the most rewarding giving you 0.88, 3, 6 or 20 x your total stake for 3, 4, 5 or 6 in combination.

The gold medal symbol is the xNudge Wild and appears 4-high. It always nudges to become fully visible (more on this below). You will also see a silver medal xWays symbol, a ship radar Bonus symbol and an xBomb Wild. Here’s a list of all symbols you’ll come across alongside payouts and info:

xNudge Wild feature

Das xBoot comes with an xNudge Wild feature. Look out for the 4-row high gold medal wild symbol which only lands on reels 3 and 4.

When it appears, the xNudge Wild always nudges to become fully visible. With every nudge, the wild multiplier increases by 1. If you get xNudge Wilds on both reels 3 and 4, the multipliers of both will be add together and the total multiplier is used as the final multiplier.

xWays feature

There is also a silver medal xWays symbol that can land on reels 2 and 5. When it lands, the xWays feature comes into play. The xWays symbol then reveals a random regular symbol.

More importantly, the size of the xWays symbol can range from 2-3 symbols. This means 2 to 3 regular symbols will appear in place of the xWays symbol. This increases your number of ways to win. Land various xWays symbols and they will all reveal the same symbol.

xBomb Wild Multiplier feature

Look out for mine xBomb Wild symbols which substitute for all symbols bar the bonus symbol. The xBomb Wild explodes all symbols that are not part of a win (except Bonus/Wild symbols).

After the xBomb explosion occurs, the remaining symbols fall down on the reels allowing for new symbols to collapse in and fill up the vacated positions. As a result, the xBomb Wild Multiplier feature applies and the win multiplier increases by 1 before the next collapse.

Silent Hunter Spins feature

The Silent Hunter Spins feature is triggered by landing 3 Radar Bonus symbols (on reels 2 through 5). This will result in 8 free spins (or 8 Silent Hunter Spins).

Reel 3 then grows to 8 rows high making the reel set look like a U-boat. This instantly increases the number of ways to win. Furthermore, a new Periscope Wild symbol can land on this reel.

When you get a win with a Periscope Wild on reel 3, a torpedo launch sequence is initiated. A target is identified in the periscope and a torpedo is fired. If the target is hit, the Periscope Wild grows up to the top position on the reel and nudges down to fill the entire reel.

Each nudge down increases the win multiplier by 1. The increased win multiplier remains in play for the duration of the feature. If the torpedo misses its target, the Periscope Wild acts as a single wild.

Look out for xBomb symbols as a sticky win multiplier is awarded. The multiplier increases by 1 for the remainder of the feature. Finally, every Bonus symbol that lands will give you 2 more free spins, with no limits.

Wolf Pack Spins feature

The Wolf Pack Spins feature is activated by landing 4 Radar Bonus symbols on a base game spin. With 8 free spins (or Wolf Pack Spins) awarded, a torpedo tube appears under the reels 2-5. Torpedo Wilds can land on these reels. These substitute for all symbols bar Bonus symbols.

When land on reels 2 and 5, a Torpedo Wild will drop a +1 xWays symbol to the torpedo bay/area. This is activated once the whole torpedo is filled. The first Torpedo Wild adds a +2 xWays symbol.

When the Torpedo Wild lands on reels 3 and 4, a +1 xWays Wild is added to the torpedo area. This also activated once the torpedo is filled completely. Like for reels 2 and 5, the first torpedo adds a +2 xWays Wild symbol.

When all torpedo parts are filled, the torpedo launch sequence begins. xWays symbols are revealed behind the torpedo in the size of the collected parts on every reel:

• Reels 2 + 5: xWays transform to a regular symbol and split in the number of ways that were collected
• Reels 3 + 4: xWays transform to a wild and split in the number of ways that were collected

The torpedo xWays symbol can reach up to 9 in size. Each time a torpedo launches, a sticky win multiplier is awarded and increases the win multiplier by 1. This remains in place for the whole feature.

When an xBomb symbol lands, a sticky win multiplier is credited and also increases the win multiplier (by 1). If it lands at the same time as a torpedo part, the xWays addition to the torpedo increases by 1. Finally, extra Bonus symbols give you 2 more free spins each time.

The Das xBoot slot really is something else from Nolimit City. With a unique look and feel, the intensity is felt as soon as you load up the game. With lots going on, the demo mode is definitely recommended initially (scroll up).

In terms of the gameplay, Das xBoot is all about the 2 free spins features. It will take approximately 211 spins on average to trigger either of the free spins features which isn’t that high considering the extreme variance.

The key to big wins is from the win multiplier which can be increased from xBomb and xNudge Wilds in the base game. Your win potential increases dramatically in the free spins due to the Periscope and Torpedo Wilds.

However, it’s the Wolf Pack Spins feature where the huge payouts will come from. Your aim is to fill the torpedo so the torpedo launch sequence begins to split symbols. This in turn brings sticky win multipliers into play.

Whilst the Das xBoot slot game may sound complicated, it is truth be told. It looks great, has a soundtrack you don’t want to mute and combines various Nolimit City mechanics for a unique trip to the depths of the sea.
