The Mask Slot Review

The Mask is a 5 reel, 20 payline slot powered by NextGen Gaming. Playable from 10p to £100 a spin on all devices, the game has been created in co-operation with Warner Brothers and is based on the chaotic 90s classic movie. With footage from the film, it comes 4 randomly triggered wild features as well as free spins where you can get multipliers up to 5x when a wild is part of a win.

With cartoon graphics and animations, The Mask looks superb – set in the fictional Edge City at night time, symbols on the reels include colourful A, K, Q, J and 10 playing cards as well as The Mask’s hat, Milo the dog and money bags. You will also see characters Stanley (played by Jim Carrey), Tina (played by Cameron Diaz) and The Mask himself.

The latter is the wild symbol and replaces all symbols bar the bonus scatter. You will also see clips from the film when you get winning combinations. Furthermore, wins are formed both left to right and right to left as 1 coin gives you 2 paylines (i.e. 20 paylines for 10p per spin).

The game comes with 4 randomly triggered wild features. The first 2 are randomly activated before a spin takes place:

• Alarm Block feature – the Alarm Clock bounces around the reels. If the Hammer destroys the Alarm Clock, a 2×2 wild block will be added in it’s place.
• In A Spin feature – The Mask appears and turns into a whirlwind swirling back and forth. The Whirlwind can randomly turn all Tina, Milo, Moneybags, Hat, A, K, Q, KJ and 10 symbols into wilds on certain reels. You can benefit from wild symbols on up to 3 reels.

The following 2 features can be randomly activated at the end of any base game spin:

• By The Horn feature – The Mask appears and squeezes Horn. The Horn Blast turns selected symbols into wilds with symbols on up to 4 reels turning wild every time this feature is triggered.
• Mask Unmask feature – Milo appears and places Mask over a random 3×3 section on the reel set. All Stanley symbols covered by Mask become wild.

The main attraction in The Mask is the Free Games Bonus feature which is played when you get 3, 4 or 5 bonus scatters (the entrance to the Coco Bongo nightclub) land anywhere on the reels – you will then get 10, 15 or 25 free spins respectively.

Once in, look out for The Mask wild symbol as any win involving a wild will multiply your win by 2x, 3x, 4x or even 5x – the multiplier applied is chosen at random. Look out for the scatter appearing as 1 or 2 will see masked Milo appear and award up to 5 extra free spins. 3 or more scatters will also give you more free spins with unlimited free spins to be won! Finally, the 4 wild features from the base game trigger more frequently too.

I really like The Mask slot – I also loved the film. All the chaotic fun from the movie has been brought to life once again for a smoookin’ good time! It’s a medium variance game with base game wins of up 6,000 times your stake – the bigger wins will come in the Free Games Bonus feature as the 5x wild multiplier can lead to wins of 30,000 times your stake on every free spin!

Overall, a superb movie tie-in from NextGen Gaming and one that will prove just as popular as the iconic film.
