Based on the cult comic book character, The Flash is a 5 reel, 50 payline video slot powered by Cryptologic and revamped by NextGen Gaming. Goodies on offer here include a bonus feature that awards 12 free spins with stacked and random wilds and a mirror feature that replays your previous 4 spins. Look out too for the special wild multipliers which can send your wins rocketing by up to 10x. Playable on all devices, stakes range from between 50p and £120 per spin.
Visually, The Flash is nicely constructed – the reels are set against a cityscape backdrop and feature playing cards alongside watches, the Flash’s fast feet and a logo. The higher value symbols are Captain Cold, Gorilla Grood and Mirror Master, each of whom will get you 2, 20, 30 or 250 coins for a 2, 3, 4 or 5 symbol combo.
The Flash himself is the wild – with the Bonus Bet activated (see below), all wins in which The Flash features will be boosted by a multiplier that can reach up to 5x (or 3x in normal bet mode). Wild wins in the feature round rocket even further and can top an impressive 10x.
The first decision to make when you start playing The Flash is whether to activate the Bonus Bet mode – this will set you back an extra 10 coins per spin (e.g. the min bet of 50p per spin becomes 60p) but in return you’ll get an improved RTP rate and access to another bonus feature.
That Rogues feature is triggered when you land 3 or more bonus symbols anywhere on the reels – you’ll then receive 12 free spins plus a choice of 3 modifier extras. They are:
Captain Cold – if The Flash lands during the free spins, Captain Cold will freeze that reel. It will then become an expanding wild and will stay stuck in place for the re-spin that follows.
Gorilla Grood – random wilds are added to the reels on each of your free spins.
Mirror Master – the Mirror Master can turn back the clock and replay the last 4 spins. In effect these are extra free spins tacked to the total.
There is also a Speedster feature which hits in the base game only – this can be triggered on any spin and transforms normal symbols into wilds. We found the features a little tricky to trigger but they have the potential to deliver some impressive rewards.
Like fellow superhero-themed releases Batman and Green Lantern, The Flash has remained true to its DC comic-book roots. It looks and sounds terrific and offers a nice range of features. There can never be enough super hero slots in my opinion.
