La Cucaracha is a 5 reel, 25 payline slot game from NextGen Gaming which can be played from 25p to £50 a spin. The theme is a comical Mexican one with piñatas, maracas, chillies, tequila glasses and cacti on the reels. With a Hot ‘n’ Spicy feel, are you ready for the hottest game of your life?
La Cucaracha comes with a red chilli which is the wild and doubles prizes when forming part of a winning combination. However, the highest value symbol is the worm in the tequila shot glass which will reward you with 5,000 times your line bet if you get 5 on a payline.
You have the Free Games feature which is played when you get 3 or more Roach scatter symbols anywhere on the reels – you will receive 10 free spins with all wins doubled (i.e. 2x multiplier). The good thing is that the feature can be retriggered giving you a potential 20 free spins (which are all subject to a 2x multiplier).
Then there is the Bonus feature which is activated when the Chilli symbol appears anywhere on the 3 middle reels (reels 2, 3 and 4) simultaneously. You will be taken to a fairground revealing a Chilli-Ow!-Meter – you need to then choose any 3 Chilli stands which will lift your Chilli-Ow!-Meter by 1 to 5 ranks. The prize you win will be awarded after your 3rd choice.
Now, if you trigger the Bonus feature during the Free Games feature, and your Chilli-Ow!-Meter reaches 12 or more, the Free Games feature is re-triggered for even more wins.
I found La Cucaracha to be a low to medium variance slot with the bonus features triggering quite frequently – the game is fun though and gives you plenty for your bankroll. It’s not my favourite slot by NextGen Gaming though as I prefer more volatile offerings like 300 Shields or Cash Stampede. If you like the Mexican theme though, I highly recommend you play Net Entertainment’s Spiñata Grande.
