Charms and Witches is a 5 reel, 25 payline slot which is powered by NextGen Gaming and produced in collaboration with Side City Studios. Playable on desktop, mobile and tablet devices from 25p to £625 per spin, it has a spooky theme which conjures up the image of Halloween.

Visually, it looks fantastic and what to be expected from a partnership between Side City Studios and NextGen Gaming (for example, Egyptian Rise is beautiful). Set at the gates of a cemetery, it has an eerie feel and a chilling soundtrack to match. Symbols on the reels include a lovely looking witch, rats, crows, frogs, wizard hats, black shoes and potions amongst other creepy artefacts.

The wild symbol (a golden door knocker) substitutes for all symbols except the scatter and pick me symbols. Wins including the wild symbol are doubled – it’s also the most valuable symbol giving you 3,000 times your line stake for 5 on a payline.

When it comes to bonus features, it has 3 – you have the Spooky Bat Bonus feature which is triggered randomly. Once activated, a swarm of bats will fly through the reels turning symbols into wilds. This applies in both the base game and Free Games feature.

Then you have the Pick Me Bonus feature which is played when the Pick Me potion symbol appears on reels 2, 3 and 4 simultaneously. You simply need to pick 1 of the symbols to win a cash prize – you can also reveal ‘Pick Again’ and ‘Win All’ to boost your winning total.

Finally, you have the Free Games feature where is played when 3 or more bat scatters appear anywhere on the reels – this will give you 10 free spins. The good thing is that all wins during the feature are subject to a 2x multiplier and therefore doubled.

Furthermore, you can retrigger the feature giving you 20 free spins potentially. One more thing to mention – the Spooky Bat feature triggers much more frequently in the Free Games feature giving you plenty of wilds to benefit from!

Charms and Witches is quite simple in terms of gameplay but there’s enough on offer to make this a playable slot well past Halloween. Graphically it’s superb and I love the Spooky Bat Bonus feature in both the base game and free spins – I found my biggest wins come in the Free Games feature when the random wilds can appear often – to the tune of nearly 800 times my stake once! If you like the theme, there’s plenty on offer such as Playtech’s Halloween Fortune and Microgaming’s Lost Vegas.
