A Dragon’s Story Slot Review
A Dragon’s Story (Feared Across the Land) is powered by NextGen Gaming and has 5 reels and 25 paylines. Playable from 25p to £50 a spin, it’s based on Ruff the dragon who sets out to protect his treasure from brave Sir William. The graphics are cartoon-like with Ruff sitting to the right-hand side of the reels – you will see the bottom of the screen covered in gold coins with a treasure chest. A Dragon’s Story is also available to play on mobile and tablet devices.
The game uses the SuperBet feature which is an additional wager that can be modified with the control to the right of the reels. If you were playing at minimum stake (25p per spin) and selected SuperBet, it would increase your stake but it would also provide the following enhancements:
- SuperBet off: 25p per spin with the Little Dragons enhanced on reel 3
- SuperBet 1: 35p per spin with the Little Dragons enhanced on reels 2, 3 and 4
- SuperBet 2: 50p per spin with the Little Dragons enhanced on reels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
I must also add that the using the SuperBet feature also increases your theoretical RTP (return to player %) – so at the maximum level, the RTP % would be 95.618% as opposed to 95.223% (no SuperBet). Other NextGen Gaming slots like Judge Dredd and Miss Midas also use the SuperBet feature.
Onto the features – first up is the Free Games feature which is triggered when you get 3 Jewel scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. This will reward you with 10 free spins with wins all doubled (i.e. 2x multiplier). You will see Little Dragons burn enhanced reels more often in the feature too. Finally, you can retrigger the feature giving you up to 20 free spins in total.
Then there’s the Brave Sir William Bonus feature which can be played at random after any winning spin – the brave Sir William will then enter Ruff’s lair to try and steal his riches. You will then choose a fireball which is then breathed on Sir William – the more treasure he drops, the bigger your cash prize. There’s up to 25 times your stake available in this feature but it can trigger quite often.
I quite like A Dragon’s Story though – it’s quirky and the potential for big wins in both bonus features is good enough for me. I consider it to be a medium variance slot which is nicely balanced. The theme is fun and it’s available on mobile/tablet devices which helps. It’s not a hard-core slot such as 300 Shields (also by NextGen Gaming), but a nice addition to the NextGen Gaming portfolio.
