It has a duck theme and comes with expanding wilds and free spins which benefit from multipliers, low value symbol removals, Colossal Wilds, random wilds and double features!

Scruffy Duck is based on ducks and visually, is set on a lake with lily pads and frogs in the backdrop. Symbols on the reels include 4 ducks (carrying objects such as mobile phones, gifts, radios and lollipops) and 4 playing cards (A, K, Q and J) encased in broken duck egg shells. The highest value symbol is the duck with the mobile phone as 5 on them on a payline pays out 400 coins.

There is also a wild symbol which is represented by the scruffy duck himself – the game benefits from an Expanding Wild feature whereby the wild appears in both the base game and Free Spins feature. It substitutes for all symbols except the Free Spins symbol and automatically expand to cover the whole reel, on all reels, when part of a winning combination. The scruffy duck becomes a beautiful swan as he expands.

The Free Spins feature is triggered when 3 Free Spins symbols appear anywhere on reels 3, 4 and 5 in the base game – 1 of 5 features are used during the Free Spins feature. You pick 1 of the ducks which randomly chooses 1 of the 5 features. They include:

• Multiplier feature – you will receive 15 free spins with a 3x multiplier.
• Symbol Removal feature – you will get 12 free spins with lower value symbols removed from the reels.
• Colossal Wild feature – you will get 10 free spins with a 2×2 or 3×3 Colossal Wild on reels 2, 3 and 4 only. The Colossal Wild can be displayed fully or partially and if part of a winning combo, it splits into 2 to 9 single wilds!
• Random Wild feature – you will get 8 free spins with between 2 and 5 random wilds added on each free spin. The random wilds do not expand though.
• Double feature – you will get 6 free spins with 2 of the above features randomly chosen for you.

Remember that all wilds appearing during the free spins will expand to take over the entire reel – in the Colossal Wild feature, they appear only on reels 1 and 5. Now, my favourite is the Double feature due to the possibility of getting a combination of 2 features – I like the Colossal Wild feature where you can benefit from a huge 3×3 Colossal Wild on the 3 middle reels. If you couple that with the possibility of getting expanding wilds on reels 1 and 5, you can win very big!

Scruffy Duck is a medium variance game with a maximum win potential of 1,200 times your stake. The Multiplier feature and Double feature have the potential to pay this number out with the Colossal Wild feature giving you wins of up to 400 times your stake per free spin.

I quite like Scruffy Duck which is quirky and has the potential to pay out very nicely if your luck is in – the variety of bonus features makes it an enjoyable game with big win potential in 4 of 5 features. The key to this game is the wild symbol really which depicts the age-old story of the ugly duckling that turns into a beautiful swan.
