Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood is a 5 reel, 20 payline slot which is powered by the impressive Net Entertainment. Playable from 20p to £200 per spin on desktop, mobile and tablet devices, it has a fairytale theme and is filled with surprises and magic inhabitants who help you along the way in your search for great adventure. There are 7 bonus features in total too!
Graphically, it’s set in a forest which has plenty of surprises and magic for you – symbols on the reels include the lower value playing cards (A, K, Q, J and 10) as well as books, pink roses, gemstone encrusted keys, crowns, the Fairytale Legend logo, Red Riding Hood wild and treasure chest scatters. The most lucrative symbol in the Fairytale Legends symbol which gives you 400 times your line stake for 5 on a payline.
As for the features, there are 3 randomly triggered ones in the base game. First up is the Fairy Magic Spin feature where a random cluster of 5 to 9 medium win symbols (except the FL logo) appears as an overlay on the reels for 1 spin – this gives you a good chance to get a winning combination.
The Fairy Surprise feature is triggered randomly when you get a non-winning spin in the base game – a symbol is then chosen (randomly!) with the other symbols turning into the selected symbol until a win is awarded. Lastly, there’s the Fairy Wild Spin feature where 3 or 4 wilds randomly appear on the 3 middle reels – this will then give you a Sticky Wild Re-Spin which is described below.
The Sticky Wild Re-Spins feature can trigger in both the base game and Free Spins feature (described further down) – it’s played when wild symbols appear on the 3 middle reels. If you get 2 or more wilds, they will act as sticky wilds and give you a Sticky Wild Re-Spin. These sticky wilds remain in position with the other reels re-spinning. If 1 or more sticky wilds appear in the re-spin, you will get another Sticky Wild Re-Spin – these continue if you carry on getting wilds.
Now, look out for the treasure chest symbol (the scatter) on reels 1, 3 and 5 simultaneously as it triggers 1 of the main bonus features – you get to pick 1 of the 3 chests to determine which feature you will play. 1 of them is the Coin Win feature where you will win an instant cash prize of 15 times your stake.
Then you have the Beware the Wolf Bonus feature where you spin a whirligig where you move around the board to find your way to grandma’s house through the deep, dark forest to win cash prizes. You will see multiplier values up to 20x but there are 5 types of locations (Coin Win, Double, Arrow, Jackpot Coin Win and Collect).
If you land on a Double location, all multipliers are doubled. If you land on an Arrow location, you will move along the arrow on the next move. If you land on the Jackpot Coin Win location, the feature ends with up to 100 times your stake on offer – if you had landed on a Double location, there’s 200 times your stake to be won!
Finally, there’s the Free Spins feature where you will begin with 10 free spins – during the feature, 1 bonus symbol landing on the reels will give you an extra 2 free spins with 2 bonus symbols giving 4 more free spins. If you get 3, you will get 10 extra free spins taking your total to 20 free spins. As mentioned above, the Sticky Wild Re-Spins feature applies means you can benefit from sticky wilds and free re-spins.
Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood definitely has a lot to offer when it comes to bonus features – I found the Sticky Wild Re-Spins feature to be lucrative in both the base game and Free Spins feature but my biggest wins have come from the randomly-triggered Fairy Wild Spin feature with up to 4 wilds appearing (when then triggers the Sticky Wild Re-Spin feature).
I consider the game to be a medium variance one with maximum wins of up to 400 times your stake on each spin. It’s entertaining with the fairies doing their fair share to bring you plenty of rewards. If you like the theme, WMS Gaming’s Li’l Red Riches and Quickspin’s Big Bad Wolf are recommended.
