When you load the Elk Hunter slot, you come across an unusual 4 reel and 6 row layout. The game also has a scatter pays mechanism, meaning wins are awarded when you land 6+ elk symbols or 8+ other symbols, anywhere on the reels.

Unlike most scatter pays and grid slots, Elk Hunter does not have a cascade/tumbling reels feature. This means that symbols that contribute to a win actually do not disappear from the grid. You can, however, win multiple times from different symbols on a single spin.

NetEnt slots are always visually impressive and Elk Hunter is no different. Set deep within a forest, it’s relaxing and tranquil despite the ‘hunter’ ideas the title suggests. Behind the reels, rich green trees can be seen as well as mountains. The soundtrack is peaceful too with an American hillbilly twang, and you’ll hear birds and other calls of nature as you play.

Multiplier Wilds Feature

In both the base game and free spins, wild symbols carry multipliers of 2, 3, 5, and 10x. These can appear anywhere on the reels and, all wins that include the multiplier wild symbol, are multiplied by the multiplier. If a win includes 2 or more multiplier wilds, it’s multiplied by the sum of the multipliers.

A maximum of 5 multiplier wilds can appear at once, and they substitute for all regular symbols.

Free Spins Feature

Land 3 free spin scatter symbols anywhere on the reels in the base game, and you receive 7 free spins. These play out on slightly different reels though the gameplay is much the same.

Elk Hunter Slot Review Summary – a little too relaxing

The Elk Hunter slot is peaceful. The graphics are beautiful and the soundtrack is relaxing, but is that really enough to keep us entertained?

Like nature itself, the features are stripped back. Whilst we do enjoy the scatter pays mechanism, with only multiplier wilds and free spins to aim for, we found ourselves a little bored. What’s more, the low max payouts of 2,035 x bet hardly keep you motivated to keep spinning.

Overall, we enjoyed the look of the game but we do wish NetEnt had pushed the gameplay further. It had potential but, ultimately, we think that the Elk Hunter slot is a little dull. Give our demo a try and see for yourself.
