Theme: eerie and bloodthirsty

The vampire theme may not be clear from the title, but it certainly is once you load the game. The Eternal Widow slot is packed with eerie and suspenseful audio and a lot of blood, which is constantly dripping from, the logo to the left of the reels.

The reels are set in a wooden frame, with the background looking like an old church with a cemetery in the distance. The colours aren’t as bold as a lot of other slots, but that could well be intentional as the provider steers towards a dark and edgy look. I think it’s a good move as more colourful symbols wouldn’t have the same intense effect.

On the reels, the lower-paying symbols are made up of a piece of garlic, a vail, a stake & hammer and a book. The higher-paying symbols are different types of vampires. The widow (the vampiress), pays the most, awarding 1.5, 4 or 10 x the bet for 3, 4 or 5 in combination respectively.

Wild Frenzy feature

Every time a Wild lands on the reels, there’s a chance that this bonus feature will randomly trigger. But it won’t trigger on a spin that triggers the Free Spins feature.

When this feature is activated, it will award 1 extra spin and Wilds that are visible on the reels will become sticky for the duration of the bonus round. You can be awarded anywhere between 2 and 9 additional Wilds randomly and they can only be placed on reels 2, 3 and 4.

Free Spins feature

Land 3 or more Scatters to trigger this bonus feature. Here’s how many free spins you could get depending on the number of Scatters that land in view in the base game:

After each spin, all Widow and Wild symbols that land will be collected in the blue and red meters on either side of the reels. You will see this in the screenshot above. Simply spin away until the free spins run out.

Widow’s Thirst feature

This bonus feature will upgrade a symbol to the next more valuable symbol in the paytable. All upgraded symbols will stay on the reels for the duration of the Free Spins feature. The Eternal Widow Review Summary: a bloody battle for free spins and multipliers

If you think The Eternal Widow slot is going to be 2023’s Immortal Romance (Microgaming) or Blood Suckers (NetEnt), you’re going to be disappointed. It doesn’t reach the dizzy heights of either of those in my opinion, but it is still a fairly good slot in its own right.

The soundtrack gets a thumbs-up from me, and so too the visuals. They might not stand out compared to other slots but I think that’s the intention, which I’m a fan of. What I did like were the bonus features, especially the Free Spins feature with the 2 additional features within that. However, I think it’s important for me to note here that it took me a few hundred spins before I even triggered the Free Spins feature. Just bear that in mind and don’t expect it to trigger too often.

While the hit frequency and the max win potential could be better, I’ve seen a lot worse. Blood Suckers 2 is a prime example where the max win is only 1,298 x the bet.  Overall, it’s a fairly good slot when you take everything into consideration, and you’ll no doubt enjoy it if you’re a fan of vampire-themed games.
