Shanghai Beauty is a 5 reel, 9 payline slot which is only available to play on desktop devices (like PCs and laptops). Playable from 9p to £45 per spin, it’s the 2nd slot game to be produced by Mahi Gaming in association with Micro. The game has a Chinese theme and is pretty simple truth be told.
Graphically quite simple, it has a tranquil and soothing soundtrack as you spin the reels – symbols on the reels include playing cards (A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9) as well as a Chinese sailing ship, a lady with a handheld fan, a lady playing an instrument, gold and silver ingots, a box and the Shanghai Beauty logo.
The latter is the wild symbol and is also the most rewarding – any win containing the wild symbol will double your outcome. If you manage to get 5 on a payline, you will win 10,000 times your line stake.
The box (where the gold ingots are placed) is the scatter symbol – 3 or more of them on the reels at the same time will trigger the Free Spin feature. Here you will be rewarded with 15 free spins. The good news is that all wins during the feature are trebled (i.e. 3x multiplier). Furthermore, if you get 3 or more scatters during the feature, you will win a further 15 free spins taking your total to 30.
It’s a medium variance slot with the bigger wins coming in the feature naturally. To be fair, I was expecting more from Shanghai Beauty when I heard it was a Microgaming/Mahi Gaming collaboration – it’s very simple and there is nothing that makes this game stand out at all.
If you’re looking for Asian/Chinese themed slots, there are better options than Shanghai Beauty – such as Playtech’s The Great Ming Empire. Alternatively, I recommend you try Electric Diva which has also been produced by Mahi Gaming (and Microgaming) and is superb compared to Shanghai Beauty.
