Enter an enchanted forest full of elves, fairies and magical creatures in Pixie Gold. Powered by Lightning Box Games, this 1,296 ways to win fairy themed slot comes with the giant Reelfecta reel as well as a re-spin feature – it’s also available to play on mobile and tablet devices. Hope for a sprinkling of the coin inducing fairy dust from between 50p and £100 per spin.
Pixie Gold is played using a pretty unusual game engine. At first glance you’ll think that there are 8 reels in play – in fact, there are only 5 with the 4 central columns counting as a single reel (yes, it took us a while to get our head around this as well).
This is the Reelfecta – in effect, it offers 16 symbols on a single reel, making it that much easier to create multiple 3 symbols combinations in conjunction with reels 1 and 2. Of course it’s possible to create 4 and 5 symbol combos if you land the same symbol in the smaller right hand columns too. It’s all a little confusing the first few spins so we recommend taking advantage of the free play option to work things out initially.
Pixie Gold comes with one main feature, the Pixie Spin feature – this is triggered when the King Star symbol appears above a Cart (yes, that is a cart being pulled along by a mouse which is totally in keeping with the somewhat surreal action). Here you’ll be awarded a single re-spin.
That sounds a little miserly but there are some extras added too. First, the fairy wild will fill the whole of reel 2. Second, 1 Lucky symbol will be chosen at random and added to the Reelfecta reel. You’ll see many more of that symbol on the single re-spin. It’s possible to fill the whole of the Reelfecta with that single symbol if your luck is in which offers some huge winning opportunities.
The pace is pretty brisk in this enchanted forest thanks to the 1,296 ways to win game engine – the re-spin comes along on a regular basis too with the overall variance in the medium range.
Visually, Pixie Gold is nicely put together – the sheer number of symbols on the reels takes a little getting used to but once you get your eye in there’s plenty to enjoy. Indeed, you could say that about Pixie Gold as a whole. On first viewing it’s easy to get a little overwhelmed by the seeming complexity of the Reelfecta and the feature.
Give it a few minutes though and it becomes a much easier to play, offering plenty of entertainment as well as some very decent winning chances. If you like the theme, IGT’s Pixies of the Forest is a popular choice. Alternatively, check out Dolphin Gold which is also by Lightning Box Games.
