Five Pirates is powered by Lightning Box Games and has 5 reels, 4 rows and 1,024 ways to win. Playable on desktop, mobile and tablet devices (including iOS and Android) from 40p to £50 per spin, this pirate themed game allows you to sail the seven seas with a crew of cutthroats where you plunder your enemies to take their booty.
Visually, Five Pirates is set at sea on a ship full of treasure and has the look of a land based game. With cartoon style graphics, symbols on the reels include pirate themed playing cards (A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9) as well as treasure maps, treasure chests, parrots, cannons and gold doubloons.
The pirate is the wild symbol and substitutes for all symbols except the scatter bonus – it also only appears on reels 2 and 4. That scatter is the pirate wench who is also the most rewarding symbol as 2, 3, 4 or 5 across a payline will give you 2, 5, 8 and 40 times your stake.
If you get 2, 3 or 4 of them scattered left to right on the reels, you will trigger the Hold N Spin feature. The wench is then lock in place and covers the entire reel. The remaining reels then respin up to 3 times in order to get the scatter on all 5 reels. If you do so, you will trigger the Pirate Barrel Bonus feature.
Here, your aim is to clamber to the top of the barrels to get the best possible free spins and multiplier combination. Once in, you need to select 1 of the 5 pirates – they each offer different free spins/multiplier options:
- Pirate 1: Win from 8 to 15 free spins with a multiplier between 1x and 5x
- Pirate 2: Win from 7 to 13 free spins with a multiplier between 2x and 6x
- Pirate 3: Win from 6 to 11 free spins with a multiplier between 3x and 8x
- Pirate 4: Win from 5 to 9 free spins with a multiplier between 4x and 10x
- Pirate 5: Win from 4 to 7 free spins with a multiplier between 5x and 15x
Once you’ve chosen your pirate, you then pick a barrel from the highlighted row – you will reveal either a green arrow or a cash prize. The arrow moves you up to a higher level. Then you pick again which will give you an extra free spin or increase the multiplier. The aim is to reach the top to get the maximum amount of free spins and the highest multiplier.
Once the free spins start, you can trigger the Hold N Spin feature to give you the chance to retrigger the bonus which will result in more free spins – you will play the free spins with the multiplier you’re currently playing with. This means you could potentially by playing with 14 free spins with a multiplier up to 15x (if you picked pirate 5).
Personally, I would opt for pirate 5 as the big 15x multiplier is the most appealing and the most rewarding potentially – I’ve had wins of nearly 2,000 times my stake from 7 free spins and a 15x multiplier. I found Five Pirates to be a high variance offering with maximum wins of 5,000 times your stake on each free spin!
Graphically, Five Pirates may not be the best slot to look at but in terms of gameplay, it’s probably Lightning Box Games’ best offering to date. If you like the pirate theme, I also recommend you try Novomatic’s Red Lady which is also highly volatile.
