Dragon Lore is a fantasy-themed slot from Leander Games. On any given spin, the mighty dragon can breathe fire and turn reels wilds, award respins with sticky symbols, provide a multiplier boost or add extra wilds. There are also free spins with 5 different modifier extras. Play on all devices from between 20p and £40 per spin.

The design in Dragon Lore is pretty basic. Leander aren’t quite ELK Studios or Thunderkick when it comes to visuals. On the reels you’ll see K, Q and J symbols as well as 5 different coloured gemstones. The best paying symbol is the Dragon Lore logo which awards up to 25 times your total stake per payline. There’s also a wild.

On any spin, the dragon to the right of the reels can stir into life and trigger the Reel Bonuses feature – it can deliver a modifier extra:

Lightning – multiplier wilds are added which are applied to any wins from that spin.

  • Air – the Dragon blows standard symbols away to reveal a wild underneath. A new payout calculation is made with the extra wilds in place.
  • Earth – the Dragon blows onto the reels and can turn 1 or multiple reels wild.
  • Fire – the Dragon can lock the first reel filled with Dragon Lore symbols. You’ll then receive 3 respins with any wilds or Dragon Lore symbols locking in place until a final payout is made.

Dragon Lore also comes with Free Spins feature. Rather than triggering them by landing 3 or more scatters, you’ll get them by landing a 5 on a payline combination of 1 of the 5 gemstone symbols. You’ll receive 8 free spins plus a special modifier. Which one you get depends on what colour gemstone activated the round.

The yellow, blue, green and red stones award the Lightning, Air, Earth and Fire modifiers listed above. They’re joined by the white stone which triggers the Ice spins. If you land these, the dragon freezes all the wilds in play until the thaw counter runs out.

Dragon Lore isn’t much to look at but the gameplay is pretty good. The variety of extras on offer delivers plenty of action in the base game. They can certainly pep up the free spins too. Yes, it’s a little unorthodox but it actually works rather well. If you fancy awakening your inner Daenerys Targaryen, then Dragon Lore is an entertaining place to start. If it’s dragons you’re after, you cannot go wrong with Yggdrasil Gaming’s Double Dragons.
