The jungles of Vietnam form the backdrop to the Platoon slot – the reels are flanked by a large statue and a silhouette of a gun-toting American soldier. Images on the reels include playing cards, complete with dog tags, as well as 5 of the main characters from the film – Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen), Sergeant Bob Barnes (Tom Berenger), Sergeant Elias Grodin (Willem Defoe), King (Keith David) and Big Harold (Forest Whitaker). The Charlie Sheen character is the top payer, awarding 1,000 times your line bet if you land 5 in a line.
The tank symbol is the wild, substituting for everything bar the bonus scatter. Any win that includes a wild will boost your payout with a 3x multiplier. The original film version of Platoon dazzled critics and picked up 4 Academy Awards. Despite the excellent design, the slot version doesn’t quite reach those exalted heights. Platoon is well designed but just a little lacking on the features front. The wandering wild with re-spin is a nice addition but we’d like to have seen something extra in the free spins round.
