A magical woodland full of cartoon critters is the setting for Forest Mania, a superb release from iSoftBet. Played using 2reel sets, it offers 100 paylines, transforming wilds, wild reels and a feature round that awards up to 10 free spins. Playable on all devices, stakes range from between 50p and £50 per spin.
The set up in Forest Mania is a little unorthodox. The game is played on 2 sets of reels – on the left is a standard 5 reel, 4 row machine. To the right is a much set of larger 5 reel, 12 row reels. Combined, they add up to 100 paylines. They spin independently but in some instances what happens on the left reels can have a big impact on the right.
The design here is impressive – you’ll find an assortment of forest flora and fauna on the reels as well as hearts, gemstones and crowns. The 2 strange insect-like creatures are the top paying symbols – 5 of the green critter will get you 200 coins with 250 coins on offer if you land 5 of the brown creature.
The W symbol is the game’s wild- it doesn’t offer any pays but it does replace all other symbols. Watch out as 1 symbol on the left-hand reels is randomly turned wild – all matches of this symbol on both sets of reels will also turn wild.
Whole reels can turn wild at random too – then a reel turns wild on the small set, the same reel on the big machine will turn wild too. Up to 3 reels on each machine can become wild on each spin.
Forest Mania also comes with a Free Spins feature – this is triggered at random and awards up to 10 free sins. You’re more likely to see both wild symbols and wild reels during the feature than during the base game.
This is another impressive release from iSoftBet – the visuals are nicely realised and the backing track has a magical feel. They combine rather well. Despite the large numbers of symbols on show, the imagery doesn’t feel at all cluttered.
The 100 paylines keep the pace ticking along at a decent rate too – it’s during the Free Spins feature that the best winning chances arise though thanks to the wilds and wild reels hitting more often. Somewhat unusual it may be but the big wilds certainly make it worth a closer look. It does remind me of the Colossal Reels slots from WMS such as Spartacus Gladiator of Rome and Zeus 1000.
