Cherry Blast is a fruit machine / video slot hybrid from Iron Dog Studio. Played using a 5 reel, 20 payline game engine, tasty treats on offer here include a Pac Man style bonus round, super wilds and a free spins feature. Play from between 20p and £40 per spin.
The theme here is a classic fruit machine but the imagery is a step up from what you’ll see in many old-school re-boots. The reels contain a collection of juicy looking 3D fruit including kiwi fruits, red and green grapes, water melons and strawberries. They’re joined by higher value gold bell, lucky 7 and cherries symbols. The cherries are the most rewarding of the standard symbols – land 5 of these on a payline and you’ll win 50 times your stake.
Keep a special look out for the lit bomb – when this lands on the middle of reel 3, it explodes and delivers 1 of 4 special bonus feature extras:
- Added Wilds feature – when the bomb explodes, it will add up to 5 wilds to the reels. A new payout is then made with the wilds in place.
- Added Scatters feature – the bomb adds 3 scatters to the reels and with it an instant win payout of 4 times your stake.
- Free Spins feature – the bomb will blast 3 free spins symbols onto the screen. You’ll then be awarded 5 times your stake and 9 free spins. Watch out here for the 2 cherry bombs which can add extra large super wild or super scatter symbols into play which can award prizes of up to 100 times your stake!
- Dash Bonus feature – if the bomb delivers 3 bonus symbols, you’ll trigger this. This is a Pac Man-style game where you choose 1 of the 5 routes. The higher the number you choose, the harder it will be for your icon to safely make it to the end. The rewards rise accordingly though.
Cherry Blast is a modern take on an old favourite – while the imagery may have a fruity flavour, the gameplay owes more to a modern-day video slot than a classic fruity. The visuals are nicely done and there’s a bouncy soundtrack to accompany the action. The features aren’t bad either. We landed them regularly and we’d put the variance in the medium range.
If you’re a fan of old-school fruit machines who’s a bit more demanding on the design front, then Cherry Blast combines the best of both worlds. We didn’t find Cherry Blast to be the most explosive slot around as far as payouts go but it was diverting enough and certainly worth a look. I also suggest you try Cosmic Crystals which is very good.
