Monopoly Plus Slot Review

Monopoly Plus can no longer be played from the 1st of May 2015 as Scientific Games (who operate Barcrest and WMS) now own the Hasbro license to develop and offer Monopoly-themed slots. Barcrest have launched the first game under the new license – Monopoly Big Event.

Monopoly Plus is the part of the Monopoly slots family and is powered by IGT. It has 5 reels and 30 paylines and is a better game than previous Monopoly slots. You can play from 30p a spin to £150 a spin so it caters to all pockets. In terms of features, Monopoly Plus is exciting and sure to get you coming back for more.

Firstly, there’s the Mystery Wild Bonus feature – this was also in the Monopoly You’re In The Money game (which was discontinued) and is triggered randomly (if the Logo symbol doesn’t appear on reel 1 or the Board Bonus symbol doesn’t appear at all, it can make an appearance). Then, Mr Monopoly will hop from reel to reel and turn between 1 and 5 reels wild. If you get 3 or more, expect big returns.

You have the Board Bonus feature which is activated by landing 3 Board Bonus symbols on the 1st, 3rd and 5th reels. Then pick 1 of the 3 symbols to reveal your rolls – 2, 3 or 4. You then pick your mover. Mr Monopoly then urges you to get the game started. If you roll a double, you are awarded an extra roll and if you roll a double 3 times, you will enter the Jail Bonus. Here is a description of what the various squares mean:

Property Bonus – landing here will award you 1 spin on the mini-slot machine. You can win extra rolls of win money (or both). The further around the board you move, the great the rewards in the mini-slot machine. If you’re lucky, you can win up 9,000 times your line bet.

Utility Bonus – landing here will give you 1 roll of the Utility dice. The bigger the sum of the dice, the better your reward. If you roll a double, you will be awarded with an extra roll in the Board Bonus.

Chance/Community Chest Bonus – landing on either will give you a random card where you can move to the GO square, move to a utility spot or move to a property spot.

Railroad Bonus – landing here will transport you to the next railroad spot and you will win an extra roll.
Free Parking Bonus – landing here will award you an extra roll.

Go to Jail – you can go here by landing on the Go to Jail square or rolling 3 consecutive doubles. You don’t however pass GO as you go to jail. You have 3 tries to roll a double and if you do so, you will win 300 times your line bet. If you don’t, you resume the Board Bonus game from the Jail spot.

GO Bonus – if you land or pass GO, you will win 200 times your line bet.

Income Tax, Just Visiting, Super Tax – landing on either of these will do nothing. Read below to see how the Level Up Plus feature affects these.

The Level Up Plus feature is a brand new feature which allows you to earn Monopoly Money for triggering the bonus round, landing on a property/utility, GO, Income Tax, Super Tax or Just Visiting. All the money you earn is remembered for every time you play Monopoly Plus. There’s a money meter in the top left which tells you how much you need to earn to reach the next level.

Once you earn enough money, you ‘level up’ and get a new title. You also will unveil new player movers or new features. Needless to say, rewards are bigger for every level you go up. You will begin as an Entrepreneur with the next level a Leader. The 1st railroad spot becomes Express Train where you move 2 railroad spots to the richer side of the board. Then you become an Executive where you get 4 extra player movers.

Then you become a Luminary where 2 random properties change to Hot Properties – their worth is now double. The Baron level gives you 4 new player movers. Tycoon is the interesting one as Super Tax becomes Super Tax Relief meaning then you spin a golden slot machine with 4x wilds – you can win 2 extra rolls and 16,000 times your line bet! As a result, a new Chance card appears which can send directly there.

Monopoly Plus is a great slot game for all types of players. It has the potential for big wins which is great and the Level Up Plus feature is good in my opinion. However, I found most wins tended to be on the smaller side with quite a lot of frequency. I prefer higher variance games such as IGT’s Cleopatra II or the cult Pharaoh’s Fortune by IGT.
