Ice Heist takes place on 5 reels and 30 fixed paylines. It is a reskinning of IGT’s popular yet dated Kitty Glitter slot, so the mechanisms work in the same way. Wins are created by landing three or more matching symbols on consecutive reels, along a payline, from left to right.

Ice Heist, as the name suggests, has a bank heist theme. We’re not actually sure of our place in the storyline (are we meant to be aiding or thwarting the thieves?), but it’s enjoyable all the same.Heist themes are always popular among slots developers and we can see why. A game involving unlocking vaults of riches is hardly a subtle metaphor, yet this game is less Oceans Eleven and a little more Spy Kids.

Whilst the graphics are slightly childish, the slot is colourful and modern. The soundtrack also helps build tension, though we wouldn’t blame you for hitting mute. On the reels, lower paying symbols are represented by 10 to Ace royal whilst 4 main characters make up the higher end of the payable. There’s a policeman, a jeweller and two thieves. The female thief is the highest paying symbol, rewarding you with up to 1000 x your bet for a 5 of a kind combination.

The slot has 2 bonus features; a classic free spins round and Diamond Accumulator feature that promises to liven things up through added wilds.

Free Spins Feature

The pile of gold bullions is the slot’s scatter symbol, which can appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. You need to land 3 of these, anywhere on the reeks, to trigger the Free Spins bonus round. By doing so, you receive a 3 x your stake payout, and 15 free spins.

During the Free Spins round, you can retrigger the feature by landing 3 more scatter symbols. You’ll receive 15 more free spins and, in theory, you could pocket up to 225 free spins in total.

Diamond Accumulator Feature

During the Free Spins round, diamond symbols may appear on reel 5. When a diamond symbol lands, it’s collected in the meter below the reels. When 3 diamonds are collected next to a symbol in the meter, the symbol turns wild for the remainder of the free spins round.

The diamonds are collected in the meter in order, starting with the Female Thief symbol which has the highest value. Every additional set of 3 diamonds upgrades another symbol, as follows:

Ice Heist Review Summary – is it really worth stealing a spin of this slot?

There’s nothing particularly innovative about the Ice Heist slot, though the graphics and design are great. Whilst we know this is a simple reskinning of Kitty Glitter, we would have liked at least one new feature or symbol.

That said, the simple gameplay does offer straight-forward fun. Big wins come during the free spins round, especially if you unlock the 4 extra wild symbols. Whilst the math model is decent, and the medium volatility means you won’t go empty handed for long, the max wins of 1,000 x your stake are a little disappointing. The saving grace is the fact you can win up to 225 free spins.
