Ghostbusters Slot Review

Ghostbusters is an IGT powered video slot with 5 reels and 30 paylines. This slot sees you join Slimer where you have 4 frequent mystery features – this is more than any slot game online. You can play with 50 coins and can play from 50p to £30 a spin. Anyway, the game features wild symbols, wild reels, multipliers, cash prizes and lots of slime.

The 4 mystery featured are triggered randomly from the base game. The Cash Award feature sees Slimer perform a funny act and pay out between 50 and 1,000 times your coin value – don’t expect huge returns though. There’s a Multiplier feature too where you will receive either a 2x or 5x multiplier. These features won’t get you much to be honest.

On a more positive note, there’s an Extra Wilds feature where between 1 and 4 symbols are turned into wild symbols. However if these symbols share a corner or edge with initial wilds, they will also turn wild. I managed to get 30 times my stake once with this feature. The best though is the Wild Reels feature where between 1 and 3 reels are ‘slimed’ and turned into wild reels. As you can see, this feature has the potential for the biggest returns.

The 2 main features should give you a better return than the 4 mystery features mentioned above. There’s the Ballroom Busters Bonus feature which is accessed by obtaining 2 Bonus symbols on reels 2 and 3 with the Slimer Bonus symbol on reel 4. You then have 5 proton shots to shoot at the 6 hiding ghosts. Every ghost you shoot successfully will give you a cash prize which can be multiplied by 2 or 5 if you’re lucky. Once you’re 5 shots have been taken, the bonus feature will end.

The best feature by a mile is the Stay Puft Bonus feature – this is activated by obtaining 2 Bonus symbols on reels 2 and 3 as well as the Stay Puft Bonus symbol on reel 4. You will receive 8 free spins but the number of paylines increases to 40 for this feature.

More importantly, marshmallows can show up on 1 or more reel positions which will be turned into locked wilds. These remain on the reels for the duration of the feature meaning that it can be very lucrative. There is a win meter which may ‘take’ back a marshmallow – you are rewarded with a cash prize as a result. The reel set used in the feature is different too which is more profitable. However, you cannot trigger extra free spins which is a shame.

Ghostbusters is an entertaining game to say the least with video clips from the film. There’s plenty of bonus features as described above but these lower the potential for big wins. I’ve never managed more than 55 times my stake in this game and the only real chance you have of winning decently is from the Stay Puft Bonus feature is you get a lot of locked wilds. If you want a higher variance game and like IGT, I recommend Cleopatra or Da Vinci Diamonds.
