Book of the Sphinx is typical design wise when you think of an ancient Egyptian themed slot – set inside a torch-lit tomb, you will see A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 card suits on the reels. There’s also clay tables, golden cobras, ankh crosses, Anubis statues and scarab beetles.
The Pharaoh is the main symbol and the most rewarding – 3, 4 or 5 on a payline will give you 2, 12 or 100 times your stake respectively. The Book (of the Sphinx) is the wild symbol and replaces all symbols bar the Eye of Ra and special symbols (more info below).
The other symbol to look out for is the Eye of Ra symbol – when 3 or more appear anywhere across the reels, you’ll play the Eye of Ra feature. These triggering symbols are then replaced by a randomly chosen symbol (bar the Book symbol). These randomly chosen symbols then expand to take over the reels they appear on – this will give you wins regardless where they are on the reels.
Book of the Sphinx also comes with a Free Spins Bonus feature – this is triggered when you see 3 or more Book symbols anywhere in view. 3, 4 or 5 of them will give you 10, 15 or 30 free spins as well as 2, 20 or 200 times your stake. 1 symbol (bar the Book symbol) is randomly chosen to be the special symbol during the feature.
When 3 or more special symbols appear on a free spin, they will expand to cover the reels fully with that symbol. Please note that special symbols only give you winning combinations once they’ve expanded. You can retrigger the feature by getting 3 or more Book symbols anywhere on the reels – in fact, you can retrigger the feature various times with a maximum of 250 free spins in total.
It’s all about the special symbols in the Free Spins Bonus feature – if you were to get the Pharaoh symbol as the special symbol, you could end up with a screen full of them. In that case, you’d win a cool 2,500 times your stake on that free spin. Book of the Sphinx is high variance so tread carefully.
Book of the Sphinx is a typical ancient Egyptian slot, in terms of design and gameplay – it’s quite similar to other popular titles like Play ‘N Go’s Book of Dead but with smaller potential payouts. For this reason, Book of the Sphinx doesn’t offer anything unique – that’s why I recommend you try Pyramidion (by IGT too) which has 3 bonus features and potential wins of up to 10,000 times your stake on each free spin (in 1 of the features).
