Baywatch is a 5 reel, 15 payline slot from IGT that is available to play on all devices from 25p to £750 a spin. The game is based on the iconic TV show that was once the most viewed show in the world and it benefits from 2 mystery features and 4 free spins features. Join Mitch, CJ, Cody and Caroline in this branded title.
Visually, Baywatch is set on a beach with clear blue waters and skies in the backdrop. Symbols include binoculars, life floats, dune buggies, a rescue 4×4, a yellow speedboat and the 4 characters from the TV show (CJ, Cody, Caroline and Mitch). The most valuable symbol is Mitch which gives you 100 coins for 5 on a payline in the base game. The is also a wave wild symbol which substitutes for all symbols bar the Bonus scatter – it only appears on the 3 middle reels.
When it comes to bonus features, Baywatch comes with plenty – firstly, there’s a Symbol Replacement feature where lifeguard symbols are randomly chosen on each base game spin from various pairs of characters. Then then transform into a combined team symbol for bigger wins – this is known as the Teamwork feature. For example, Mitch and CJ will combine to give you wins of up to 250 coins for 5 on a payline.
The other randomly triggered base game feature is the Tidal Wilds feature – on each spin, the wild symbol can randomly expand to take over the whole reel. Each wild reel can then expand horizontally to fill 1 or 2 more reels – this can lead to 3 wild reels (on reels 2, 3 and 4).
The main attraction is the Free Spins Bonus feature which is played when you get the Bonus symbol on reels 2, 3 and 4 (the 3 middle reels) – you will get 2 times your stake as a cash bonus. Then you choose 1 male and 1 female character to create your team of lifeguards – this will also reveal the number of free spins you’ll play with.
You can choose from ‘More Stacks’ which gives you reels with the chosen character symbol appearing in 2-high stacks. The ‘More Spins’ option simply gives you more free spins. The characters you choose will only appear on the reels during the feature meaning the Teamwork feature will apply to give you enhanced wins. Here’s what the characters offer you:
- Mitch – 3 to 5 free spins with stacks of Mitch symbols
- Cody – 7 to 12 free spins
- CJ – 3 to 6 free spins with stacks of CJ symbols
- Caroline – 7 to 12 free spins
Now, as the Teamwork feature applies, you will get bigger wins on each free spin but you can choose from stacked lifeguard symbols, extra free spins (up to 24 altogether) or a combination of both. The good news is that the Tidal Wilds feature applies more frequently to you could have 3 wild reels on each free spin.
Despite it being a branded slot, Baywatch is a low to medium variance title with maximum wins of 150 times your stake on each spin – that’s rather disappointing if truth be told. Playtech did have a Baywatch slot but it’s ceased to exist by the looks of it. Overall, it’s entertaining with some good bonus features but the win potential is too low for it to be a slot I play regularly – I would much rather play more volatile offerings like Sphinx Wild or King of Atlantis (both by IGT).
