Are you brave enough to venture into the forest after dark with a full moon shining? That’s the setting for Night of the Wolf, a horror themed slot from High 5 Games. This 5 reel, 30 payline slot comes with stacked and split symbols as well as a bonus feature that offers up to 15 free spins. Play from between 30p and £300 per spin.
A creepy looking wood provides the backdrop to this werewolf inspired slot – symbols on the reels include low value playing cards A, K and Q as well as a scent bottle, ring and locket. The payouts warm up with the arrival of the 2 werewolves and the male and female characters.
These symbols can appear as split, making it possible to create combinations of 10. Just 3 of the same character will get you a payout but if you land 10 of the male (5 split symbols), you’ll receive a 350 coin payout.
There is also a wild symbol that offers payouts of up to 1,000 coins – it substitutes for everything apart from the red rose scatter and counts as 2 of the male and female characters and the 2 werewolves.
The red rose scatter only appears on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 – it can appear as a split symbol too. Land 5 for 5 free spins, 6 for 7 free spins or 7 for 10. If you’re lucky enough to find 8 roses (that’s 4 split symbols), then you can look forward to 15 free spins.
A new set of reels are used for the feature which also come with a Super Stacks feature. The male or female characters or the 2 werewolves appear as stacked and in the process offer a wealth of winning chances. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to re-trigger more free spins here.
Night of the Wolf is a well-designed slot – the all-American hero and heroine look like they could have come straight out of a teen slasher movie. The action plays out to a thumping backing track which matches the somewhat eerie theme. The graphics aren’t the best you’ll come across but do the job perfectly adequately.
The variance is in the medium range with decent winning opportunities available in both the base game and the feature round – the split symbols keep the pace high, especially as you only need 3 to create a winner.
Night of the Wolf didn’t quite leave us howling with delight – it’s a very playable slot though and should appeal if you like the horror theme. I would also recommend Playtech’s Full Moon Fortunes which is very high variance.
