Walking Duels feature

The Walking Duels feature is triggered when a Walk VS scatter symbol appears on the reels. With the possibility of multiple Walk VS scatters appearing, they are always wild and come with a multiplier value at the top.

The Walk VS wilds expand to cover the entire reel, revealing a monster. If the monster is defeated, the multiplier is applied to the whole duel. Any winning paylines that connect with the duel are subject to the reel’s multiplier. If multiplier Walking duels are part of the same win, the multiplier values are added together and then applied.

The possible multipliers range from 2x to 200x. If you manage to defeat the monster in at least 1 duel, a respin is awarded. Duels where the monster was defeated remain active and walk across the reels to the left. Every Walking duel moves 1 reel left unless it’s blocked by the edge of the grid or another Walking duel. If more new Walk VS symbols appear, more respins are awarded.

Expanding DuelReels feature

The Expanding DuelReels feature is activated when the green Expand VS scatter appears on reels 2, 3, 4 or 5 (i.e. not reel 1). Only 1 of these symbols can land on a spin at any time. The activated Expanding duels are always wilds and come with a multiplier at the top.

Defeat the monster for the multiplier to be saved at the bottom of the reel. The Expanding duel grows 1 reel to the left unless blocked by the edge of the grid. This triggers a new duel with another monster.

Importantly, the value of the bottom multiplier is accumulated from all defeated monsters. The multiplier values range from 2x to 200x. If you don’t defeat the monster, or if the Expanding duel cannot grow further left, the saved multiplier value is applied to the whole duel. All winning paylines connected with the duel are subject to the multiplier.

The Curse feature

The Curse feature is played when 3 Curse scatters appear simultaneously on reels 1, 3 and 5 in the base game. With 10 free spins awarded, there is a higher chance of landing Walk VS and Expand VS scatters which then brings the respective bonus features into play.

The Tomb feature

The Tomb feature is triggered once 3 Tomb scatters appear on reels 1, 3 and 5 on a base game spin or from a series of respins. Once in, Tomb VS, Epic VS, Unlock and Golden Unlock symbols will appear. Featuring special locking reels with a multiplier above each reel, the feature ends when all 5 reels are locked simultaneously. Both reels 1 and 5 start locked.

If you land a Tomb VS symbol on an active reel, a monster is revealed and a multiplier from 2x to 200x appears. Defeat the monster for the duel multiplier to be added to the multiplier above the corresponding reel.

Look out for Epic VS scatters as these activate Epic Tomb duels on all reels. These have a multiplier from at the top that can either add or multiply the current multiplier value. The adding multipliers are 25x, 50x, 100x, 150x or 200x whilst the multiplying multipliers range from 2x to 20x. Lose the battle for the reel with the Epic VS scatter locked.

Finally, 4 Unlock scatters appearing simultaneously on a reel will unlock the reel it lands on. These can only land on locked reels. If you land the Golden Unlock scatter, all locked reels will be unlocked at once.

Visually, the Undead Fortune slot is terrifying and appropriately released just below Halloween (surely that was intentional). As always, the graphics, imagery and soundtrack used by Hacksaw Gaming will make you want to play with the lights on.

In terms of the gameplay, the DuelReels mechanic can be found in the previous release, Fruit Duel. Here, VS symbols sees 2 fruits in a duel with the winning fruit’s multiplier applied to the whole reel. It’s similar in Undead Fortune but with monsters battling it out. Also, the multipliers can be as high as 200x as opposed to 100x in Fruit Duel. Another difference is that a respin is awarded with the Walking duel moving 1 reel left.

The Expanding DuelReels feature sees multipliers saved with more duels to follow. The value of all accumulated multipliers is applied to the whole duel once all monsters are defeated. The Curse feature basically gives you 10 free spins with a higher chance of triggering the 2 base game bonus features.

The major attraction is The Tomb feature which comes with locking reels and multipliers. Winning duels will increase the multipliers above each reel and keep going. Epic VS scatters will see adding or multiplying multipliers applied. That said, a reel locks if you lose a duel. The key is to unlock all 5 reels as locked them will see the feature end. In demo mode, I’ve had mixed results ranging from 8 x bet up to just under 3,400 x bet.
