As is usually the case with Genesis Gaming, Machine Gun Unicorn is beautifully designed – well beautiful probably isn’t quite the right word given the theme. The setting is the aftermath of a fight to the death between the unicorns and zombie invaders (yes, really!).
Look out for a series of angry looking unicorns, a fire-breathing dragon and a trio of zombified heads in jars. The red-lidded zombie jar is the biggest payer, offering 100 times your line bet if you find a 5-symbol combination.
The golden-haired unicorn is the wild – instead of a horn, the creature sports a high-powered machine gun. It only appears on reel 3 and substitutes for all other symbols. It’s also the key to triggering the only Symbol Bombs feature.
When the machine gun unicorn hits on reel 3, you’ll be hoping to see the zombie jars elsewhere on the reels. If that happens, the unicorn will fire off a round and destroy the zombie jar and in the process, reveal a cash prize. The more zombie jars destroyed, the bigger the bonuses on offer.
It starts at 0.5 your total stake if you blow up 1 or 2 zombie heads but reaches a whopping 105 times your total bet if you manage to destroy 14 zombies. If you’re unlucky enough to find the unicorn when there are no zombie heads on show, you’ll be awarded a consolation prize of 4 times your total stake.
The theme on show in Machine Gun Unicorn is certainly unusual – it’s very well presented, both visually and aurally thanks to the rocking soundtrack. Why did we feel a little underwhelmed then? The machine gun unicorn feature is a good 1 but there are only so many times you can blow up a zombie head without it becoming a little repetitive.
There are certainly decent wins on offer in Machine Gun Unicorn thanks to the bonus round. We’d have just liked to see another feature added to the mix – some free spins or even a pick em round. Machine Gun Unicorn isn’t a bad slot. Far from it in fact – it’s just a case of what might have been. Other slots from Genesis Gaming, such as SuperWilds, are much better in my opinion.
