Taking inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s classic tale Through the Looking Glass, Clash of Queens is a 5 reel, 25 payline video slot powered by Genesis Gaming. It comes with an impressive bonus feature that pits the White Queen in battle against the Red Queen and in the process awards free spins or pick me prizes with a double multiplier. Play from between 25p and £250 per spin.

In keeping with the source material, the imagery on show in Clash of Queens has a slightly surreal feel – set against a slightly creepy, gothic style backdrop, complete with semi-ruined castle, the reels include symbols of some of the tale’s most famous characters.

Look out for Tweedledum and Tweedledee and Humpty Dumpty who will both get you 5, 100 or 500 times your line bet if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a payline. They’re joined by playing card symbols from A to 9 as well as a standard wild which appears on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and a scatter which offers payouts of up to 50 times your total stake.

The most interesting symbols though are the Red Queen and the White Queen which both offer payouts of up to 750 coins if you land 5 in a payline.

Land the Red Queen on reel 1 and the White Queen on reel 5 (or vice versa) and you’ll trigger the Clash of Queens Battle feature – choose the Red Crown for free spins or the White Crown for the pick me feature, then watch the queens go into battle.

If you choose the Red Queen and she loses the battle you’ll receive 4 free spins. If she wins though, you’ll receive 8 free spins. During the free spins, look out for the Red Queen who can turn up to 3 random reels wild. It’s possible to re-trigger more free spins here too with an extra 8 on offer (giving you a possible 16 in total).

Choose the White Queen and if she loses, you’ll trigger the White Queen Picks feature as normal. If the White Queen wins though, your accumulated picks will be boosted by a 2x multiplier and doubled. Just keep on picking the chess pieces shown to reveal cash prizes. Carry on choosing until you find the collect which ends the feature.

As usual with Genesis Gaming designed slots, Clash of Queens looks great – the bizarre visuals are nicely done and the action plays out to a suitably creepy soundtrack. On the volatility scale, Clash of Queens sits somewhere in the middle which offers a balanced range of payouts. The bonus feature doesn’t arrive that often but is an impressive extra, adding variety as well as decent winning potential.

Clash of Queens is a surprisingly entertaining slot – well designed and easy to play, it also packs a decent amount into the features department. We’re not normally mad keen on the fairy tale theme but these Queens offered enough to win us over. If you like the theme, I highly recommend Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers by WMS.
