It’s hard to switch on the TV these days and not find someone trawling through a flea market looking for a bargain. It’s a little surprising that more slots developers haven’t attempted to tap into this market. Genesis Gaming has tried to do just that in Antique Riches, a 5 reel, 25 payline video slot that comes with pick me and free spins bonus features. Awaken your inner David Dickinson from 25p to £10 per spin.

Set in an antiques shop, Antique Riches puts you in the position of a dealer on the hunt for a hidden gem to take to auction. Symbols include some 17th century Delft Blue porcelain, a silver German beer stein from the mid-1500s, an Old Western pistol, a Venetian skeleton key and a Victorian phonograph. The plate is the highest value antique, paying 1,000 times your line bet for a 5 symbol combination. The Antique Shop sign is the wild, substituting for all symbols apart from the scatter.

Whenever the scatter hits on reels 1 and 5 you will collect an item – once you have collected 5 of them (keep count on the meter above the reels), you’ll trigger the Antique Pick ‘Em feature. Here, you’ll be presented with a choice of 15 antiques. Pick 1 and it will be assessed by an expert – if the object is deemed genuine, you’ll be awarded a cash bonus. Keep picking until you find a forgery which will bring the feature to a close.

After the scatters have delivered 10 antiques, you’ll trigger the Auction Bonus feature and receive 10 free spins. Whenever a scatter symbol appears during this feature, 1 of the collected antiques will be sold and you’ll be awarded a bonus prize which rises the more items you sell. If you’re lucky enough to sell all 10 of your items, a special prize awaits. With the free spins feature, all wins pay both from left to right and right to left!

A word of warning here – don’t change your stakes in the middle of a session if you have already collected a number of antiques as they will be cleared when you start playing at the new level.

Antique Riches is a real charmer of a slot – the imagery is nicely done and the action plays out to a rather lovely, harp-heavy soundtrack. Given that this slot celebrates all things old, don’t expect anything too revolutionary on the features front.

The pick ’em round is a straightforward affair and there’s a nice take on the traditional free spins round. We found the variance to be on the low side so you’re unlikely find anything too spectacular. There’s plenty of entertainment on offer in Antique Riches though whether you’re a fan of Bargain Hunt or not. However, I prefer more modern slots such as Clash of Queens or Mirror Magic (both by Genesis Gaming).
