A stormy Las Vegas skyline forms the backdrop to the action here. Rather than playing cards, the lower value symbols are a collection of creepy icons including crosses, masks and daggers. They’re joined by a grainy CCTV image, a newspaper headline and forensic crime officers. The banks of blood symbol is the best of the standard symbols, paying 3.75, 25 or 75 times your total stake in the base game if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.
The W is the wild – this substitutes for all the standard symbols and pays up to 150 times your total stake per payline. The Vampire and his platinum blonde Prey symbols both spin in stacks that are 3 symbols high. A full stack of the Vampire pays 1 times your stake, the Prey awards 0.5 times your stake. Land both for a 1.5 times stake payout.
Each time these symbols land they fill up the blood meter to the left and the discipline meter to the right. Once either meter is full, you’ll be awarded 1 of 3 free spins rounds. On offer are between 5 and 16 free spins and multipliers of between 1x and 5x. The precise number depends on how full the 2 meters are when the feature is triggered:
- Dominate Discipline Free Spins feature – if the Prey symbol lands on the right most reel, it can copy onto the other reels then turn wild. Get lucky here and you could fill 15 positions with wilds.
- Fortitude Discipline Free Spins feature – helping your winning chances here between 1 and 6 wilds which are added on each free spin.Presence Discipline Free Spins feature – at least 4 wandering wilds will move around the reels on each free spin.
It’s worth noting here that the paytable is different during the free spins feature. The standard payouts are much lower than in the base game. You have of course got plenty of wild extras and multipliers to help move things along.
Land 3 scatter symbols on the same spin and you’ll trigger the Pick Me Bonus feature. This is a multi-stage bonus where you have to pick from the playing cards to reveal cash prize.
Many horror-themed slots play it for laughs. That’s certainly not the case with Vampire: The Masquerade – Las Vegas which has a decidedly sinister feel. The visuals are creepy and the brooding soundtrack enhances that mood of impending peril.
The features, once you trigger them, aren’t bad. We found the free spins very hard to come by. The wilds and multipliers can have an impact there to the tune of 1,680 times your stake on each spin/free spin. We’re always a little disappointed by an amended bonus paytable though.
If you like the ghoulish theme, then Vampire: The Masquerade – Las Vegas should deliver. If you like the horror theme, Blood Suckers 2 from NetEnt is highly recommended.
