The evil jailer Diaz was the heel in that game and it’s his matador son who takes the role of the baddie in Wild Toro. With a bullfighting theme, the developer is most definitely on the side of the bull in this battle with the matador.

The setting here is a traditional Spanish village meaning it’s clearly based on Spanish-style bullfighting. There’s not much in the way of a backing track in the base game action but you will hear the hum of village life.

Expect a revved up salsa soundtrack when the features come into play. There are options to play with sound, effects, either or none. As usual for an ELK Studios game, there’s little to grumble about when it comes to design.

On the reels, you’ll find bronze, silver and gold coins as well as a fan and a Seville orange with a dagger through it. The red rose is the most lucrative symbol, paying 2, 5 or 10 x your total stake if you land 3, 4 or 5 of them in combination.

The Wild Toro logo symbol is the wild. This replaces all the standard symbols when it makes up part of a winning combination. Rounding out the symbols are the dastardly Diaz the Matador and the bull. These can combine to trigger respins and wilds.

The wild bull can land on reel 5 only. When it does, the Toro Walking Wild feature is activated. A respin is awarded, with the wild bull moving 1 reel to the left. Toro Goes Wild Bonus Game feature

The Toro Goes Wild Bonus Game feature triggers when a walking wild and a Diaz matador symbol appear on the same spin. The bull marches towards the matador symbol, leaving a trail of wilds as it goes.

When the matador has been defeated, the bull resumes its walking wild progress toward the leftmost reel. The bull can skewer multiple matadors in the same set of respins which can lead to some massive trails of wilds.

Matador Respin Challenge feature

Finally, the Matador Respin Challenge feature activates when you land Diaz the Matador on reels 2, 3 and 4 on the same spin. Your reward is 3 respins.

You’re much more likely to see the bull appear on reel 5 during this feature than in the base game which means more frequent triggers of the Toro Goes Wild Bonus Game feature. Each time a new Matador symbol lands, 1 extra spin is added to your total.  The feature only ends when all Matador respins run or if Toro defeats all Matadors.

Wild Toro Review Summary – expect no bull in this entertaining favourite

The Wild Toro slot has become a real fan favourite and it’s easy to see why. It comes with an entertaining backstory and the design is excellent. It also win the Game of the Year title at the EGR Operator Awards in 2017.

The gameplay is rather unusual but the walking wilds, wild trails and respins can combine to deliver some top action. With 2,250 x stake max wins, it doesn’t offer the biggest payouts seen online. However, it’s nicely balanced and very entertaining. In summary, Wild Toro gets an ‘ole’ from us.
