The Tropicool slot has 6 reels, 6 rows and 46,656 ways to win. It does like look a grid slot though. To land a winning combination, you need to see 3, 4, 5 or 6 matching symbols on adjacent reels and beginning from the leftmost reel.

Available to play from 20p to £100 a spin, click on the Coins icon to see all available stake levels (12 in total). You will find an Auto Spin feature where up to 100 auto spins can be played with. Theme – head to a frozen paradise

The Tropicool slot takes to a frozen paradise off the coast of Antarctica. With an icy island theme, the story is that characters Tony Toucano and Fiona Flamingo were tired of migrating to the island every year. As a result, they decided to stay on the island all year round and make it their permanent home.

With palm trees, beach huts and the sea in the backdrop, this island paradise is frozen over with snowflakes falling from the skies and the palm trees covered in snow. It makes for a refreshing change visually. The first thing you will notice is the classy jazz soundtrack which wouldn’t be out of place at a country club.

On the reels, symbols include low value plums, mangos, lemons, cherries, apples, coconuts and strawberries which are all inside ice blocks. The strawberry symbol is the best paying with 0.5, 0.6, 1 or 2 x bet awarded for 3, 4, 5 or 6 in combination.

Then you have 2 bird characters which appear stacked on the reels. When they appear fully on a reel, they pay scatter style (i.e. not on adjacent reels). Fiona Flamingo and Tony Toucano pay up to 0.9 and 1.2 x bet respectively.

There’s a W wild symbol which substitutes for any symbol except the Wild feature, Bonus and Row Swap symbols. The Bonus symbol is represented by a B (more on this below).

Avalanche feature

The Tropicool slot is very nicely designed and uniquely combines an island paradise with an icy feel. It’s fun, light-hearted and flamboyant to say the least. The soundtrack will have you dreaming of a Caribbean getaway.

The Feature Reel is a nice touch which adds wilds, locked wilds, multiplier wilds and symbol swaps when you break the ice. It’s more rewarding in the free spins where it can give you extra free spins and an increase to the win multiplier. This is where the bigger wins will come from.

Whilst it has a jovial and tranquil feel, Tropicool can produce 10,000 x bet wins on each spin. ELK Studios have done a good job in delivering a game that’s fun and has big win potential. The only slight grumble is the 95% RTP rate.

Overall, it’s another solid offering from ELK. It’s not quite Nitropolis 4 which also has a Feature Reel. Another option is Relax Gaming’s Cluster Slide which comes with a Feature Generator.

If you want more trips to paradise though, the Sam on the Beach slot by ELK Studios would be my choice. Despite having lower win potential, it shares the same fun element offered in Tropicool. Another option is the pirate themed Pirots slot which offers a new twist on this cluster pays/grid slot concept.
