I like the layout of the Tropicool 4 slot game. It uses a square 6×6 grid with 46,656 paylines. It’s similar to a Megaways slot, as it covers every possible way to win. Landing at least 3 symbols creates a win, standard for online slots. If you manage 6 on a payline, it pays out bigger wins.

The Tropicool 4 slot offers stakes between 20p and £100, matching the biggest ranges at UK slot sites. Changing the stake is simple; I found the controls in the bottom left of the Tropicool 4 demo. All spin controls are on the right, and there’s also an autoplay option in the free slots version. However, this is unavailable for anyone playing at UK online casinos.

Unfortunately, the Tropicool 4 RTP rate isn’t set in stone. The top rate is 94%, but it can fall as low as 87%, which is extremely low. Even the top rate doesn’t come close to the best slots online, so this is definitely a negative. This title has high volatility, and it certainly felt that way while testing the demo for my Tropicool 4 review.

You’ll know what to expect here if you’ve played any of the Tropicool games before. Two tropical birds make a big mistake by staying in a cold area. It’s a simple premise, but it creates some fun environments. You’ll find a deserted, frozen resort when you start the game at Tropicool 4 casinos, which is the opposite of what you may expect.

The slot looks fantastic. All symbols are well-designed, there are some nice animations, and the background is excellent. ELK Studios has done a superb job of creating an enticing atmosphere.

The sounds are equally as impressive, keeping players engaged. I like the ambient noise while I’m waiting to spin. The pool noise is just about audible over the dance-inspired soundtrack. When the reels spin, there’s a minor click as symbols drop into place, adding extra ambience.

As with most ELK Studios games, the Tropicool 4 mobile slot is identical to the desktop version. It’s a fantastic conversion with excellent graphics, superb sounds, and easy controls. All buttons are responsive, so you don’t have to wait between spins. The gameplay works well for mobile casino games, and it’s a fun title to try on smartphones.

Avalanche and Cool Reel

Whenever you create a win in Tropicool 4, the winning symbols vanish from the reels. New symbols fall into place to create new wins potentially. At the beginning of each spin, the Cool Reel at the top of the screen may hold special symbols. If they fall in, they become active.

The special symbols that can land from the Cool Reel are as follows:

• Mystery Symbols: They reveal an identical symbol chosen at random
• Row Swap: Swaps a single symbol across a row, replacing all standard icons
• Grid Flip: Switches the grid on the horizontal axis and then turns wild
• Multiplier: Increases the multiplier by 1 to 3
• Wild: Helps create wins by substituting for standard symbols
• Locked Wild: A wild that remains in place for between 1 and 3 wins

Big Symbols

These are standard symbols that can appear as 2×2 or 3×3 blocks. They help create larger wins as they count for the number of spaces they cover. When they drop from the Cool Reel, they crush all standard symbols below.

Flamingo Wild, Toucan Multiplier and Elmo Drop

These symbols trigger when they are unlocked by winning symbols. The Flamingo Wild walks across the reels and grows as it moves. It begins with a height of 2 or 3 spaces and can get as high as 6 spaces. The Toucan Multiplier also walks across the reels but doesn’t impact any wins. Instead, it awards free drops and increases the size of the multiplier each time it moves.

The Elmo Drop destroys all standard symbols on its row when it triggers, allowing for new ones to fall in.

Free Spins

If you land 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters, you trigger the Free Spins. 3 scatters awards 6 spins, with every extra scatter awarding 3 more spins up to a maximum of 15. You can collect extra spins for the Cool Reel, and as the multiplier increases, it stays persistent between drops.

Tropicool 4 is a fun slot. I enjoyed playing it, and it offers lots of entertainment to players. However, it’s too similar to previous versions to stand out truly.

That’s not to say I don’t like it. If you’ve never played a Tropicool game before, it’s well worth trying out. The Free Spins feature is a highlight, as I’m a fan of avalanches and persistent multipliers. The volatility is high, but with a 25,000x max win, it’s set at about the right level. It’s well worth a 4.2/5.
