My first impression of the Shadow Shifter slot was shock. It’s an approach I hadn’t seen before, and even with thousands of games under my belt, it took me a minute or two to get to grips with it. Pushing the reels up a position adds 1 to its multiplier. Whenever a win lands, it collects all multipliers on the reels it covers, increasing the payout size. Once no more pushes can land, there’s a respin that can create a new win and start the process again. When no more wins appear, the reels reset for the new spin.

Special Symbols

Four specials are available in the game, and they are available in all game modes, including the base game.

• Wild Symbol: It helps to create wins on the reels.
• Expanding Wild: Expands to fill a reel when it lands.
• Max Grow: Instantly increases the number of rows to 8.
• Both Ways: Makes the rows pay from right to left and left to right.

Free Spins

Shadow Shifter is something new to enjoy. Beginners, beware: this isn’t easy to play, but once you understand it, there’s lots of fun on offer.

I’ve given Shadow Shifter a score of 4.2/5. However, this scored a bit low based on how much I enjoyed it. It’s different and doesn’t just offer the same old experience. I have to take into account that new slot players might struggle to get to grips with it, though. It’s a game that provides a new idea but isn’t accessible as a tradeoff.

If you’re an experienced slot player who wants something experimental, you’ll enjoy this title. I like it, but I also concede that it won’t be for everyone. I wholeheartedly recommend trying Shadow Shifter, at least to find out if it will be your new favourite slot.
