My first impression of the Knight Fight slot game by ELK Studios is that it’s not like other games. While there are some other ELK games that use the CollectR mechanic, it’s applied differently than in most other online slots. If a knight lands next to a group of gems matching his colour, he will collect them. Otherwise, there are no wins.

You can wager between 20p and £100 in the Knight Fight slot game, covering all budget sizes. I usually play at £1 a spin, so it was well within my limits. The controls are as simple as they get in the free slots version, with the spin button on the right and stake controls on the left. There is an autoplay feature, but as I’m a UK online casino player, I couldn’t test it.

It’s not just the basic design of the graphics that stands out, either. I really like the animations; everything looks smooth, and it adds to the game. It’s rare for animations to match the quality of visuals, but Knight Fight does it successfully.

The sounds are equally impressive, providing an immersive atmosphere. The music changes as the bonus round begins, which is a nice touch. I really liked the sound effects; you can hear the knights grunting as they collect gems and fight. Overall, there’s a lot of humour in this game, which is something most players should enjoy when playing at Knight Fight casinos.

The paytable is different from other games. Instead of increasing the payouts exponentially as symbol values increase, every individual symbol has its own value when collected. However, you can increase the value of each symbol by collecting upgrade symbols.

When knights collect gems from the reels, the symbol meter on the right fills up. When the meter is full, it awards one of the bonus symbols. It’s possible to stack up to 3 bonus symbols, significantly increasing the potential for wins.

However, whenever the reels spin anew, the symbol meter resets. The possible bonus symbols are as follows:

• Coins: These golden coins represent an instant win and award a random multiplier for your stake amount, up to a maximum of 10,000x.
• Upgrade Symbols: There are 2 types of upgrade symbols that can land. The first only upgrades the gems of the same colour as the knight that collected them. The second upgrades all symbols. These symbols improve the gems by 1–3 levels, up to a maximum of 7.
• Goat Symbols: If a knight collects the goat symbol, it turns the goat into a devil-worshipping creature. Once all wins have been collected, it will scare the knights away into new positions, which potentially creates new wins.
• Transform Symbols: If the knights drink the transform symbol, nearby symbols turn the knight’s colour. There’s also a chance that some of the gems become bonus symbols.
• Golden Apple Basket Symbols: Instead of leaving seeds that make symbols cascade, knights leave a trail of apples behind them while collecting. This allows the knights to find new routes, increasing the potential wins available.
• Dragon Egg: Once the round ends, the dragon egg will hatch. This removes all knights and gems near it. Additionally, The size of the grid expands to the full 8×8 setup.

Free Spins

When the knights collect at least 3 scatter symbols, this awards a bonus round of 5 spins. If you manage to increase the grid size, boost the symbol meter, or upgrade symbols, they remain at that level for the remainder of the feature.

During the free spins, all upgrade symbols impact all gems, so the potential payouts increase for all knights. If you manage to collect 3 additional scatters, you will get extra spins.

The CollectR feature is fun, but on the smaller grid, it can feel like the volatility is ultra-high. However, once those reels expand, the gameplay becomes much better. The bonus symbols open up some impressive wins, particularly when the apples appear. As is often the case with online slots, the free spins round is where Knight Fight truly shines.

While there’s a lot I like about Knight Fight, the RTP holds it back from being one of the very best games. The high volatility is also frustrating, as it can be a long time between wins. Therefore, you must balance your bankroll carefully to make the most of Knight Fight. Overall, it’s well worth the score of 4.3/5.
