Ashoka Eternal uses a 5-reel, 7-row machine. You’ll notice that some of the positions at the start of each spin are filled with blockers. Create winning combinations by landing clusters of 5 or more symbols. These symbols and adjoining blockers are blasted from the reels and new symbols drop in and replace them. If a new cluster forms, the process is repeated. The avalanches continue until there’s one with no new winner on display. If you manage to clear all the blockers, extra reels and rows open up. Terra cotta masonry dominates the colour palette in Ashoka Eternal which is very stylishly put together. The temple gardens are the setting here. A beautiful pond filled with lily pads sits at the bottom of the reels, which are flanked by gently flowing water features.

Symbols include 4 lower-value flower-style motifs on stone blocks which appear alongside blue, green and red gemstones and a mighty white tiger. There’s also a wild and a re-drop symbol which does exactly what is says on the tin. The skull is the bonus scatter while the skull encrusted with a gem is the super bonus scatter.

To the side of the reels are a pair of wheels. One can unlock the free spins, while the other can deliver multipliers.

Accompanying the visuals is a rhythmical soundtrack which has a hint of Asia about it. It complements the historical visuals rather nicely and delivers just the right level of atmosphere. If it’s a bit too much, head to the settings and you can play with just the game noises active if you prefer.

ELK Studios has put together a nice sequel to the original but this one falls a little short in comparison.

With its combination of classy design and varied gameplay, ELK Studios has come up with a winning slot in Ashoka Eternal. The sound and visuals here are terrific and it’s backed up by a solid collection of features.

The avalanche wins and cluster pays keep the pace high. I found the multipliers tricky to get going in the base game, but they can start to motor during the bonus round. Those free games are tricky to land but they can be worth the wait.

The main gripe I have here is the low RTP of 94%. That aside, there’s a lot to enjoy in Ashoka Eternal.
