Enter the gold-filled chamber of an Egyptian pyramid in Pharaohs Wild, an ancient-themed slot powered by Core Gaming. Played using a 5 reel, 20 payline game engine, it comes with moving stacks, overlay symbols and a free spins round. Start your adventure from between 20p and £500 per spin.
A pyramid chamber forms the backdrop to the action here – the floor is filled with gold and the reels are flanked by pillars ornately decorated with Egyptian hieroglyphs. The sand-coloured reels include lower value A to 10 playing cards as well as a camel and a golden ram. The most rewarding symbol is the Tutankhamun-style burial mask – land 2, 3, 4 or 5 of those and you’ll win an award equal to 2, 6, 15 or 25 times your total stake.
The snarling dog god symbol is the wild, replacing all other symbols – it’s also central to triggering 1 of the game’s 3 features:
Free Spins feature – this round is triggered by landing 3 or more wilds on the same spin. The precise number of free spins awarded isn’t defined. They’ll just keep on coming as long as a wild lands. You can also get a random re-trigger if the mummy above the reels stirs into life and drops a wild on reel 5. You’ll get at least 5 free spins from this re-trigger.
Floating Bonus feature – this second extra is triggered by landing a full stack of the same symbol on reel 1. Copies of that stack will then float across the screen and can drop on 1 or multiple reels, filling them with the same matching symbol. A new payout is then made with the extra symbols in place.
Mummy Bonus feature – this feature is triggered at random. Watch out as the mummy comes to life – he’ll then drop a selection of matching overlay symbols on to the reels. A new payout is then made. If the mummy drops wilds on to the reels, you’ll trigger the Free Spins feature. You’re not guaranteed a winner here but your chances receive a big boost.
Pharaohs Wild is a pretty simple game as far as design goes – the visuals are nicely done though and work well with the slightly creepy backing track. The features offer a nice variety. We didn’t find them the easiest to trigger but they delivered some tidy enough results on the occasions they did land.
This isn’t the most spectacular trip to ancient Egypt you’ll make – it’s a perfectly solid addition to the genre though and well worth a look if you like slots that celebrate all things ancient. Alternatively, WMS’ Lady of Egypt or Quickspin’s Phoenix Sun are recommended.
