Irish fortune is the theme on offer in Wish Upon a Leprechaun. Blueprint Gaming’s new take on this classic slot theme. It’s a 5 reel, 20 payline game that is brimming with extras – they include base game modifiers that offer re-spins, spin streaks, stacked and sticky wilds as well as 2 free spin features, pick me rounds and a cash trail. Playable on all devices, stakes range from between 20p and £500 per spin.

All of the usual Irish luck stereotypes are present and correct in Wish Upon a Leprechaun – slots with this theme are usually gaudy affairs but this one is quite tastefully done. The Leprechaun’s cottage is the setting – there you’ll find lower value playing cards plus horse shoes, top hats and wishing wells. Most rewarding is the rainbow logo – it spins in a stacked formation and offers awards of 500 coins per payline. That same amount is offered by the wild that replaces everything bar the bonus.

As we mentioned in the intro, this is a feature heavy slot, starting with the 5 Lucky Charm Bonus features which can hit at random on any base game spin:

  • Infectious Wilds feature – these are overlay wilds that trigger a respin when they hit. The extra wilds are locked in for that respin.
  • They Think It’s All Clover feature – a stacked wild is added to any of the 5 reels.
  • Colossal Spin feature – a colossal symbol can turn 3 adjacent reels into the same giant symbol.
  • Spin Streak feature – once triggered, the winning symbols are held and a respin awarded. The respins keep on coming as long as a matching symbol or wild adds to the cluster. A final payout is then made with all the symbols in place.
  • Bonus Boost feature – you’ll see more Bonus symbols than usual, boosting your chances of landing the Pots O’ Luck Bonus.

To trigger that Pots O’ Luck Bonus, you need to hit the Bonus symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5 on the same spin. Then choose a treasure chest to confirm which feature you’ll get access to:

  • Chests O’ Plenty feature- based on the classic TV gameshow Deal Or No Deal, pick from chests to eliminate values. You’ll then get an offer which you can accept or decline. Keep on going until you get to the last treasure chest or you say yes to an acceptable offer.
  • Nags T’ Riches feature – this is a cash trail. Spin the lucky reel to ride around a racecourse, collecting multiplier prizes as you go. The round ends when you land on a collect or you’ve collected 5 Big Money symbols which takes you through to another round (more of which below).
  • End O’ The Rainbow Free Spins feature – a special scatter is added during this unlimited run of free spins. When these land, they illuminate a rainbow above the reels which turns a symbol wild. There are 4 level up on offer here, each offering a new wild. Keep on spinning until you reach the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
  • Clovers Rollover Free Spins feature – during your 10 free spins, look out for the giant 3×3 overlay wild which spins over the middle 3 reels. If it lands in a full formation, you’ll have the equivalent of 9 wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4.
  • Big Money Bonus feature – this round is triggered by landing 5 Big Money symbols in the Rags T’ Riches feature. Select 1 of the jockeys who’ll then have a race. Big multiplier prizes are on offer – the size depends on where your jockey finishes.

There’s plenty of variety in Wish Upon a Leprechaun – the 5 base game modifiers land regularly. The free spins and other features are harder to come but you still won’t be waiting too long to find them. My favourite is the Clovers Rollover Free Spins feature as you can get 3 wild reels essentially on each free spin.

Overall, Wish Upon a Leprechaun offers some very solid action – the design here isn’t as OTT as some similarly themed slots. Combined with the jig of a soundtrack, it comes together rather well. Wish Upon a Leprechaun is another quality addition to this crowded genre but a welcome one – if you like Irish luck, I recommend you play IGT’s Shamrockers Eire to Rock which is very good.
