The setting for Anubis Rising is an opulent chamber in a Pharaoh’s pyramid. Flanked by stone pillars and flaming cauldrons, the dark reels include a pretty standard collection of symbols, each appearing on a block of sandstone. Joining the brightly coloured A to J royals are six Egyptian hieroglyphs. There’s a fan, an ankh cross, a scarab beetle, Isis, Anubis and the Eye of Horus.

The Tutankhamun-style burial mask is the wild. This substitutes for all the standard symbols. There’s also the golden pyramid which is the scatter.

There’s a familiar look to the images here which are dripping in gold and gems. It’s nicely done but I thought it looked similar to a host of other slots with an Egyptian setting. The same goes for the traditional soundtrack. It’s perfectly fine but just note hugely original.

Anubis Rising looks a little dated and the bonus features can be found in many other slots from years ago. Still, it may suit those who prefer the old classics.

You could say the same about a lot of slots but Anubis Rising really is all about the bonus round. Bar the expanding wilds, there’s not much variety in the base game.

Trigger the bonus round though and it’s a different story. A decent haul of picks from the wall before you play your free spins can have a big impact. I enjoyed the best success when I managed to uncover the Gold Anubis Wild and the multipliers started to work their magic.

This is a volatile slot though and it can take time to trigger the all-important free spins.

Visually, Anubis Rising is fine. I’ve seen a similar collection of symbols in countless other slots with a similar theme though. The same goes for the backing track. Perfectly acceptable but not exactly original.

In fact, that’s a pretty good description of Anubis Rising overall. It’s a solid and well-designed slot, but it doesn’t exactly break any boundaries when it comes to gameplay.
