The Vikings were renowned for their raping and pillaging but thankfully Viking Quest is a much sunnier affair – set against an idyllic, tree-lined backdrop, the reels include a Viking warrior, a young woman, a shield, a hammer, a green haired troll and a grinning jester. Land 5 of the latter for a 500-coin haul. There’s also a wild that awards 5, 40, 300 or 1,000 coins if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 on a payline. It also substitutes for all other symbols apart from the scatters.
You’ll notice that the symbols can sometimes be a little different to the norm in Viking Quest – that’s down to the Mega Icons. These are giant 2×2, 3×3 or even 4×4 symbols that can land on any spin and deliver some mighty payouts. They are also the key to triggering the bonus features.
Land the Mega Scatter Salmon to trigger the Gone Fishing feature – you’ll get to cast your reel and angle for a prize for each icon position occupied. We found Viking Quest to be a very entertaining slot – the design is top notch, featuring quality graphics and animations and a soundtrack to match. The gameplay was pretty good too, offering plenty of variety.
The Mega Icons are a nice addition, especially in the free spins round where you’re always tantalisingly close to securing something massive. We’d put the variance in the medium range. The fully formed 4×4 icons don’t land that often in the feature but when they do and match a high value symbol, they can deliver rewards that would delight even the hardiest Viking warrior. Faeries Fortune, also by Big Time Gaming, is identical in terms of gameplay. If you like vikings though, Vikings Go Wild by Yggdrasil Gaming is well worth playing.
