Take a trip back to the land of the ancients in Book of Gods, a 5 reel, 243 ways to win slot from Big Time Gaming. Look out here for cloned symbols that can fill reels and a bonus round that can award infinite free spins. Play on all devices from between 10p and £40 per spin.
There’s an unusual look to the design here as you’ll see beautiful blue seas, pyramids and mountains in the background. The reels are flanked by blue and white marble pillars. On those reels, you’ll see the usual assortment of lower value royal symbols and more lucrative hieroglyphs and gods. The best of the standard symbols is the cat god Bastet which pays 0.5, 1, 2 or 20 times your stake if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 on adjacent reels.
The golden Book of Gods is both the wild and scatter – it offers payouts of 2, 5, 10 or 30 times your stake as well as substituting for all other symbols. There are 3 special features in Book of Gods.
Symbol Cloning feature – to the left of the reels, you’ll see the pages of a book which turn with each spin. This will reveal 1 of the lower value A to 9 symbols. If you land a winner featuring the special chosen symbol on that spin, the whole of the reels where that symbol lands will all turn into the same matching symbol. A new payout is then made with the extra stacked symbols in position.
Free Spins feature – land 3, 4 or 5 of the Book of Gods scatter to trigger the feature and with it, 15, 20 or 25 free spins. Before the play out, 1 of the higher value god symbols will be chosen at random to become the cloned symbol. Land a winner featuring this symbol and it will fill all of those reels.
Land 3 or more scatter and you’ll get another round of free spins. Better still, another god will become a cloned symbol. You can do this 3 times so all 4 gods will become cloned. Furthermore, you can retrigger the feature indefinitely for unlimited free spins.
If you can’t wait to trigger the Free Spins feature, then you can always pay to activate it using the Feature Drop feature – the precise cost is shown in the meter to the top right of the reels. Every time a special token symbol lands, the price drops by half your stake. For example, if playing at 10p per spin a token reduces the feature drop by 5p.
We weren’t expecting too much when we fired up Book of Gods but were pleasantly surprised. The sound and visuals are nicely done and the features offer some decent potential. We found the Free Spins feature hard to trigger but did well when we did land it after landing the highest value Bastet as our cloned symbol.
There’s a seemingly endless choice of ancient-themed slots on the market. With its good looks and volatile gameplay, Book of Gods is one of the better ones. It reminds me of Novomatic’s Book of Ra Deluxe in terms of bonus features but Book of Gods is better and offers bigger winning potential.
