Like many of Barcrest’s fruit machines, Burn ‘Em Up is a straightforward affair. That’s true of both the design and gameplay. There’s a no frills look to the visuals here. The reels are divided by flames. There you’ll find a collection of old school fruit machine symbols.
The lowest payers are the melon, plum, orange and cherry symbols. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these for a payout of 0.5, 2 or 10 times your stake. Next come the single, double and treble 7s. The single pays up to 100 times your stake, the double 15 times your stake and the treble 30 times your stake. You can land any combination of single, double or treble 7 and create a winner which pays 0.5, 1 or 5 times your stake.
The most rewarding standard symbol is the gold crown which awards 5, 20 or 100 times your stake if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a payline. The somewhat sinister looking joker is the wild. He performs all the usual substituting functions and replaces everything bar the scatter. Find 3, 4 or 5 wilds in combination and a payout of some 10, 50 or 500 times your stake follows.
There’s just the 1 extra, the Free Spins Bonus feature, in Burn ‘Em Up. It’s triggered in the standard manner by landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters anywhere on the reels on the same spin. Your reward is 12, 18 or 24 free spins. Symbol upgrades are in play during those free spins. A winner made up of a 7s gets upgraded to the highest paying triple 7.
For example, say you landed a 5 in a row combination made up of 2 single 7s, 2 double 7s and a treble 7 you’d receive a 5 times stake payout in the base game. In the free spins round this would be upgraded to 30 times your stake. Landing 3 or more scatters on the same free spin results in a re-trigger and another round of free spins.
There’s nothing flashy about Burn ‘Em Up. The design is rather rudimentary and the gameplay basic. The Free Spins Bonus feature can have its moments though thanks to the symbol upgrades.
We hoped that Burn ‘Em Up would be a real scorcher of a slot. It’s not quite that but it’s playable enough if you’re after nothing more than a suped up fruit machine. Saying that, a screen full of wilds will land you an impressive 5,000 times stake payout. If you want something fancier, Barcrest’s Rainbow Riches MegaWays should do the trick.
