Epic medieval adventure is what’s on offer in The Land of Heroes, a 5 reel, 10 to 20 payline slot from Bally Wulff. Available to play on all devices, it comes with a bonus round that awards up to 14 free spins with up to 4 extra symbols becoming wilds for the duration. Start your quest from between 10p to 20p and £20 to £40 per spin.
The design in The Land of Heroes is pretty good – it’s not stunning but it’s closer to the top of the table than the bottom. A tree-filled valley forms the backdrop to the reels. Joining the lower value A to 9 playing cards are a range of items relating to the sword and sorcery theme.
Look out for swords, shields and lutes which award up to 10 times your total bet followed by the raven who’ll get you up to 25 times your stake. Next comes the village woman. Land 5 of these in combination and you’ll win 37.5 times your total stake. The most rewarding symbol is the bearded man who is the game’s wild – he replaces all other symbols apart from the scatter and offers payouts of 0.5, 4, 25 or 50 times your total stake if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 in combination.
The strange milling device is the scatter – land 3, 4 or 5 of these and you’ll pocket a payout equal to 2, 10 or 50 times your total stake. You’ll also trigger the Free Games feature – here, you’ll be awarded 7 free spins. Before they begin, the milling device will grind into life. Depending on where it stops, it will turn up to 4 standard symbols into wilds. These will play as wild during all 7 of your free spins. You can also get 3 or more scatters to reward you with another 7 free spins.
The Land of Heroes is a perfectly solid slot as far as sound and visuals are concerned – the images have a Norse feel and the stirring soundtrack matches the theme. The gameplay isn’t quite so epic. In fact, we found the game a little dull. We managed to land the free spins regularly but enjoyed limited success.
The key to a big win is turning a full quartet of symbols wild – this is tricky to do but can deliver some big rewards. If you like the Norse theme, Thunderstruck 2 by Microgaming is a superb game to play.
